Nice work:thumbs, don't forget a video and some feedback on how the GS4 seat works with the seatmover.

    Thanks.

I will post a video soon.

The GS-4 works really well with the seat mover. They both approach motion in a different way. The GS-4 simulates the effect of the G-force on your body and the seat mover simulates the movement on the car.

The work in unison, sway is a good example, if you are turning right then the seat mover will tip you left but at the same time the GS-4 will be pressing against the left side of your body and legs. So you get the inner ear being fooled by the seat mover and your the pressure from the GS-4 adding to that so you have both things working together in to tricking the brain. It feel like you would expect in a real car, you feel the sideways tilt you get as you go in to the corner then the pressure from the seat as you get pushed in to it.

The GS-4 sort of fills in the gaps where the seat mover isn't quite as good. I was asked the same question over here http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/simxperience-gs-4-g-seat.6171/#post-68025 and went in to it in a bit more depth. but I described it the seat mover being the lead guitar and the GS-4 being the bass guitar. Both can sound awesome on their own put together they are the complete package.

The GS-4 is better at subtle changes and the seat mover is better for more violent changes like bumps.

Thanks for the reply. Your dead right, it is all about tricking the brain. Unfortunately one of the weaknesses of a seatmover, or any balanced SIM is that the induce pressure on the body reduces the closer you get to the point of balance, where in a real car/plane it would be constant across the whole part of the body. I think the pressure plates in a GS-4 type system could really help in balancing this up. In a similar way, I'm also expecting the extra lateral movement available in my new 6DOF system to help in producing a more constant pressure on the effected parts of the body, hopefully producing a more realistic simulation. Look forward to the video.

Yes, that is exactly what it does. The seat mover is great for feeling the pressure on your ribs, especialy with the Kirkey seat the the GS-4 uses because you sit really deep inside it so as you corner your ribs press against the metal sides which have no give in them. Also it has a metal support bar on the bottom which presses against you in braking and accelerating with the seat mover. But as you said you don't feel it so much in your back or bum. That is where the GS-4 is great, it means that you feel that pressure over your whole body.

The servos are really powerful. It has no problem pushing all my fat out of the way. And the range of the motors are crazy. There is about 80mm from full back to full forward. Anything over about 50% on both back panels is pressing me so hard that it is starting to hurt and it has not problems pushing me to 100% of it's travel, not that you would want to because it would probably crush your kidneys and a few other internal organs :p I would say in racing that you would probably use no more than 30% of it's travel. When I used to race IRL I would quite often have sore ribs after a race, I get the same thing with the GS-4.

Here are some photos of the GS-4 range of movement.

Yup, that is the guide I used to help me set my PID. I went a step further and used the graphs to confirm my finding. What do you think of the overall speed of the rig? Do you think I an using too much D, trying to go for a soft stop on target or should I allow some overshoot to help with the speed so it doesn't have to slow down so much before it gets to the target.

Yes, the motor settings are the same as the ones in your guide except I have limited the motors to 400 duty cycle to stop the JRK's from overloading.

You could try slowing max acell down from 400 to down to 300. Leavd PID as is. Speed of rig is fine. Just because its linear speed might be a tad sloower. Its still faster than SCN loaded.

Cool. I will play around with the max accell. I am really happy with the speed. I have been watching the duty cycle graph as I race and it only goes over 400 duty cycles if I go off track and the bumps are vicious enough. Any faster and I would break me or the rig, probably me and my squishy organs. With the GS-4 and seat mover I seriously doubt the longevity of my kidneys :p :sos

    My latest addition.

NZKW 6 point 3" FIA approved harness.

Why 6 point harness? Because racecar!!

Lucky you got the FIA approved one, as you would not have passed scrutineering :grin.

iRacing does a Tech Inspection every time you start a session so I was a bit worried about failing that. The belts don't expire until the end of 2019 so I am golden for another 5 years :p :grin

I got them installed and did a little test with the AI and holy crap does it make a huge difference. Especially with the GS-4. Because I am pinned to the seat then I can feel the pressure so much more.

Here are some photos of them installed.

Thanks. It is reminding me so much of my old race car now, with the race boots, gloves and harness.

If it wasn't the middle of summer here I would be tempted to break out my old race suit and helmet just to complete the experience.

A harness also stops you fighting the motion, as a human body will naturally do. A must for all motion sims in my book.

This would be more useful in looking the part while remaining functional, just replace the DK1 with the DK2. Of course you would have to use an FIA approved helmet ;)

I totally agree, before I wasn't feeling the motion much because my body would naturally just bend at the hips to counter the motion. Now that I am pinned to the chair then the motion is much more extreme for the Sway and Surge, funny thing is the heave feels less because I am not bouncing out of my seat anymore. I am going to change my motion profiles a bit to counter that.

The plan has always been to run the belts (as you can see the seat belt tensioner went in pretty early). I just hadn't got round to getting the belts because it was pretty low on my priority list. Now that I have all the motion up and running I am just working on little things. I finished up the insulation on the battery terminals last night and did the belts tonight.

The To Do list is getting shorter. I am going to wait a bit before powder coating it. I might be moving house soon so I might wait till then so I can strip it down and powder coat it will I move then set it up again in the new house.

Yeah. that would be me if I put on all my race gear. I would get laughed at so hard if I wore my full race suit and helmet. I get enough hate on my YouTube videos for wearing race boots and gloves.

Oh yeah, it has to be FIA approved, I wouldn't sim race with anything less, it just wouldn't be safe.

I remember seeing that CXC oculus helmet in one of their videos.

Is it just me or is that motion really tame?
