    HI all,

I an running Win 8 and have installed installed simtools and .net. When trying to use interface settings it doesn't save when clicked nor does it display any ComPorts in SER. I tried reinstalling and restarting a couple times with no luck.

Any one else have this problem?

FYI - I am trying to output data to a Arduino for a 6DOF prototype. http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/new-6dof-rig-design-and-scale-model.8110/

I am presuming it was a clean install of SimTools and .NET, is that correct?

Are there error or log messages of any type?

Does the SimTools interface look misaligned?

Is there anything you have tried other than reinstalling, such as launching SimTools with Administrative privileges.

    Thanks for the reply.

    1. no error messages when installing or when running. I didn't check the logs though. i'll take a look at them. I'm assuming i can find them in the SimTools folder?

    2. yes the interface look just fine. nothing misaligned.

    3. I'm logged in as an admin as far as i know. Is their something special I need to do?

    Try downloading SimTools again.

Uninstall the current SimTools, accept removing all the files.

Check that there is not a SimTools folder in C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\

    If there is delete it.

Check that there is not a SimTools folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\

    If there is delete it.

    Reboot.

Reinstall SimTools as a normal user.

Check your device is visible in Device Manager and note the com port number.

Run SimTools and let us know if the problem is still there.

Did exactly what you recommended. I'm getting the same problem with SimTools.

I do see my device in device manager but don't see any ComPorts in interface settings. Save still doesn't work.

I just relized I'm running Windows 7. Is that a problem?

No windows 7 is not a problem, I have run SimTools on XP, Win7, 8.1 and 10, but there is something really odd going on with your computer.

Do you have Firewall/spyware programs running, if so try turning them off for a moment and test.

No, i have nothing like that running. I'm totally perplexed by what is going on. This PC is just used for gaming.

Hmmm...check if there is perhaps a driver issue for your device.

What model Arduino is it and is the board genuine or a clone?

The Arduino works fine and drivers are installed. The Arduino is NOT a clone. It's just not visible by the SimTools. Also save doesn't work which is really weird.

The save not working is because ComPort is blank, that is not really a problem.

The issue is not seeing the device and while the drivers may work I would delete them and reinstall them.

Something is preventing SimTools from seeing your device.

My guess is that it is an issue with the drivers perhaps not being digitally signed, though I thought that was fixed in the latest sdk: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

Yay, I finally got it working! Thank you all for the help. Apparently I just had to reinstall Arduino software. Everything works great and my rig is working. Just need to add some plugins and should be another step closer.

An ED update broke motion support some time ago and the plugin has not been updated yet: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/elite-dangerous-plugin.6108/page-13#post-98488

Plugins for games relying on the hook method are problematic when the game devs make constant changes to the code base.
