    Welcome @lologtr.

On the main threads you can duel post in French as long as you include and English translation.

We have bi-lingual speakers from many different language groups so if Google Translate really messes it up they can help clarify what was intended.

We do have a very active French membership and their is a social thread in Fench: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/french.156/

Have a look at existing member builds, that may help you refine your own project: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs, from design software, dimension of sims, to PSUs, pots, motors, JRKs, Arduinos and Motor Monsters and more: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

We have a glossary for all those acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

Hi all. Mongoosetoo here; I've built dozens of arcade and a couple Dirt 2/3 racers but want to learn how to do motion. Looks like I'm in the right place.

    Hi,

I've been reading for hours on end after being directed here by @noorbeast from a post I made over on a reddit oculus thread - he said that a motion sim is next level after racing in VR.

So, I'm ready to build out a 2DOF rig!

One question, and this may not be the place for it - VR folks have talked about needing motion cancellation capability in the VR sdk to counteract the view shake from your head moving around from the motion rig but that being tracked by the VR headset - how bad is this and does it make a motion rig unworkable, or is it just a 'minor' annoyance?

    Cheers!

@zdam the need or otherwise for either mounting tracking on a motion sim or motion cancellation depends on the design chosen and extent of axis movement. A traditional 6DOF Stewart platform either needs a Rift camera mounted on it, or motion cancellation. But for fast moving full frame or seat shaker designs you won't really notice the absence of motion cancellation with tracking off the Rig, be it Rift or Vive.

@mongoosetoo when you say you have built dozens of arcade and a couple Dirt 2/3 racers is that DIY or commercially. If the latter then there is a specific commercial thread.

    Good luck with your projects.

Hi all, I'm from Australia and have set myself the challenge of build my first motion sim. I am building a platform sim to use with racing and flight simulation. I have started to weld up the frame and I have also started on the electronics. I'm using 2 12 wiper motors with Arduino boards ( as a test to make sure it all does what I hope it will, Then I will upgrade to better quality motors) I am using triple monitor which is connected to the frame and will move with the sim. I have also built a button box and about to start on a hand brake setup. I am trying to have ago at doing as much as I can diy and am looking forward to discussing my ideas and receiving help in my journey of building my Sim.

    Thanks

I've been searching the net for months looking for information on how to mod my trusty old G25. I'm really looking for a couple of extra g/cm (or something). I came across an old PC wheel made by a now defunct company called A1 Advantage. The build quality is outstanding. All roller bearings, steel gear-wheels etc. It's not a FFB wheel so my first quest is to transplant the FFB system from an old MOMO. What I'm really looking for, I suppose, is a 'one-stop' solution. If there is a section I haven't come across that lists what type of motor (stepper, servo, straight DC) with what type of controller and a way to feed the FFB signal to it all from my game/s (PCars and AC), that would be a great start.

Thanks to everyone who posts their work. It's an inspiration to me, but I need a little more guidance.

    Thanks Simon.

Hi, I'm Sento Siete from Spain.
I come from a Frex system that now only works with AC, son I've decided to change to the XSim software and change the controller for one that works with it.

My fist doubt: does it works with Windows 10?

EDIT: Sorry :blush "to change to the XSim " o_O SIM TOOLS of course!!!

    Welcome @Sento Siete.

We use SimTools here, not Xsim: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/whats-the-difference-between-simtools-and-x-sim.1/

Yes you can convert a Frex rig to use SimTools: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/how-to-convert-your-frex-scm-to-simtools-updated.1412/

Yes SimTools works fine with Windows 10.

    Hi,

I already have too many hobbies and interests competing for my time and money, but I have recently given up one or two to make way for a new passion in the form of VR.

I have an HTC Vive on its way and am ordering a custom built High End gaming PC to connect it to.

I have always liked racing games and can see how they are suited to the world of VR. I would like to start with Project Cars.

I have just taken delivery of a Thrustmaster T300 and T3PA Pro pedals and 8 gate gear stick.

I need two new projects. Firstly I would like to build a fairly inexpensive yet robust racing rig to fit the wheel and pedals to.

Secondly I would love to build a Motion Sim Race Rig to take this VR thing to the next level.

To be honest I did not know this was even possible until a few days ago when I stumbled across your forum.

I would like to avoid another unfinished project so would like to tackle something that has already been proven by experienced member(s).

For the moment I will concentrate on builting a staionary rig. In the meantime I will continue to read and absorb new info and knowledge from this site so that one day soon I can tackle a motion rig.

    Regards Geoff.

    Hi Guys
new member here from Adelaide - Australia!

Looking to build a custom floor panel for my f1 playseat to accommodate 4x SCN6-020-050 actuators, one actuator for each corner of the rig. Bit of a long term project given the cost of the actuators / motion system.

Looking forward to providing updates and contributing to the site wherever i can
    Regards

Hi @SimBad, unless you are working off a known successfully design, recommend you start a project at http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/ and detail what you want to build before getting in too deep with the costs involved. It may save you some time/money/frustration.

yes agree - just at the preliminary stages at the moment - trying to understand the concepts before I settle on a design.
I'm unable to post links to youtube as im a new member, but if you search youtube for "f1 playseat motion max verstapen" you will see what i'm trying to achieve.

I'll do the 3D design in solidworks and post some images here in due course.

    Thanks!

Actuators look like D-Box - even more expensive . But I will wait for your build thread and not pollute this any further.

    Hello all,

I am from Australia and have been a very casual sim racer since 1998 (GPL and rFactor). I am a mechanical engineer with some very limited knowledge of mechatronics.

My current setup is very outdated (except for PC, it's ok) and I would like to build either a direct or belt drive ffb steering wheel with 10-20NM.

I have on hand numerous pmsm motors including a couple of lenze mcs 12L41 motors, very similar to some of the build threads on this forum.... With a peak torque of 57NM..... Alas they have resolvers instead of encoders but these can be swapped if required. I have some matching servo drives with resolver interface cards

I also have some dunkermotoren bg75x50 motors which have integral controllers and canbus interface. These would make a great little belt drive setup.

So several options which I look forward to discussing with the members of this forum and maybe one day a diy motion simulator!!!
