    Hi All,

I am just starting out on using SimTools and I seem to be falling at the first hurdle. Sorry if this is a dum question, but hopefully it is easy to answer! As a first step I would like to visualise the game data from Live For Speed- and so far I can't!

What's Installed on My Windows 10 PC
Live for Speed, Game Manager and Game Engine

What is NOT Connected To My Window's 10 PC
I have not yet boaught any hardware and hence no interfaces are defined.

    The High's
Game manager reports that it is connected to the Game Engine.
When Live For Speed starts both Game Manager and Game Engine report Live For Speed is running
I have managed to set up the axis assignments under the Default profile (see below) and a dialog box appears saying this is saves OK.

    The Low's
When I run Live For Speed the sliders (under Output Testing -> Virtual Axis) do not move.
To test if the Default axis assignments were saved, I hit Clear and then Load Defaults - and all the axis assignments are left blank after clicking "Load Defaults". Hence I wonder if the axis assignments are actually saved.

I have gone over the tutorials on axis set up and setting up Game Manager and Game Engine, but I must be missing something.

Many thanks for any help in advance.

Hi OG, since there is nothing setup in interface settings (controller boards to connect Axis) there is nothing for output testing > Virtual Axis to display. They are looking for Axis' to tell you about and not finding them :(

    Many, many thanks noorbeast!

The hardest thing was that I don't have any Com ports - I had to download some software to give me a virtual Com port for Windows 10. Once this was installed I could follow the instructions in the link you gave.

While the axis slider bars did not move, I could clearly see the game input data in the Tuning Center. For LFS yaw looks to be equivalent to heading. I guess the output to the control hardware is shown in the red area of the Tuning Center?

This is ace - now I can move onto the next stage and have a look at altering the VB plugin for LFS.

I have some VB code that will take body angles (roll, pitch yaw) and return Euler angles - 3 angles which if applied in the correct order will reproduce the orientation of the vehicle. This is overkill for a racing sim (well with the possible exception of Trackmania games!), but with a flight or space sim there is more potential. If I get the VB implementation in the plugin to work then I hope to produce a small scale model of the simulator idea relatively cheaply. That is the current plan at least - we will see how things work out!

    Sure, the link is:

    http://www.hhdsoftware.com/virtual-serial-ports

There is a 30 day trial period and then some (but not all) of the fearures are removed. After the trial period the option to direct the com port output to a file on disk remains, although I think the "listening" com port feature (where the com output just dissappears) is removed.

    Good luck!
