VR is a high entry cost niche market and it will be quite some time yet before it cracks even 1% of the total game market.

Personally I consider the VR game market is picking up steam, there is enough new content to warrant weekly updates and both devs and gamers are willing to experiment, which is exactly what VR needs at the moment. A lot of indie devs are at the vanguard, but at least the first AAA studio foray has been announced, for Fallout.

Meanwhile quality game depth is being supplied by titles that have good reason to add VR support, and lucky for us that is the sim genre.

In addition the long term VR opportunities are huge and that is drawing investment from lots of quarters, other than from game sales. So there is a whole new industry forming around tourism, training and marketing, it uses traditional gaming tools and skills, but targets different markets than gamers.

Yes early VR game devs will face challenges, but they also have substantial opportunities in a market that is almost devoid of big competition.

    I'm excited for VR.

I was really worried at the start it would be nothing more than tech demo's and would end in everyone sat around in "Virtual Cinema's" watching movies. Thankfully the technology has been embraced and from an outsider looking in, it seems VR is in the news / tech columns each day.

I was amazed (and I mean AMAZED) when I tried TrackIR for the first time, and could look around the cockpit. I will likely have a seizure from pure magic when I try VR.
You can look ABOVE and Behind you (to some extent). I mean... come on... That's plain awesome!

CAN. NOT. WAIT. for my Rift to arrive! Bought it from a local Game Dev, so don't have to wait till August. Should have it next week. :D

Did you get to try the Rift before buying it @Archie?

Nah, I've not actually been able to find anywhere that I could try it. That or the Vive. :(

Unfortunately there are not a lot of test opportunities in Oz. Do take it easy until you get your VR legs.

VR tracking and immersion is a whole other level compared to TrackIR, but you don't have the same resolution and do have complicating factors like god rays. As long as you have realistic expectations of where gen 1 VR is at you should really enjoy it, and it is pretty amazing to think that we now have VR in our homes.

Yeah - No travelling road shows for Aussies!

Biggest thing for me was wearing glasses, I don't need them all the time, only for reading, so putting on an Oculus was a big worry, however my frames are narrow and YouTube video's confirmed I'd be fine.

In terms of content, I watched the Apollo 11 VR experience trailer, and while the graphics look pretty poor, the immersion looks spectacular.

I then watched all of @SilentChill 's video and that had me sold! :D

The Rift is not great at accommodating glasses @Archie, but that may not matter, as depending on your specific eye issue you may not need them.

VR and motion are awesome together!
