2 DOF platform sim for racing and flight

    After reading a lot of content on here for diy 2dof I decided to give it ago. I have incorporated a triple monitor setup which is attached to the plaform. I am trying to build as much of the sim my self to save as much money as possible, including a button box with 30 controls and a handbrake for use with dirt rally, I am currently trial different wiper motors to find ones that could handle the weight of my sim( I have added a couple of springs to the rear to lighten the front end). Any suggestions on the best wiper motors(make and model of vehicle) would be appreciated. After Hours of stressful fun I have got simtools talking to my motors (I have a couple of electric window motors I'm using to get the electrical right). Even downloaded the LFS Demo to test it out and with great excitement it worked. I will post photos at a later date. Cheers

    Nothing a grinder and paint won't fix ;)

    It is a lot of weight to move with wiper motors. You really need to carefully balance the rig, with you and all peripherals included, and maximise the inherent leverage. Given your existing design perhaps consider a foot mount for the motor placement.

    Thanks noorbeast. I did place all peripherals on the sim before finding COG and I also added a couple of springs to the rear to take some slack. with my self sitting on it ( I am 100kg) my 7 year old daughter can hold it level no problem. without sitting on it the sim has 19.5kg downward pressure at the front when level and since adding the springs it has around 1.5kg downward pressure. I did review my plans 100 times( do or don't add the monitors to the platform).
    I hope this makes sense .

    Whichever way you go with motor mounts the longer the leverage length the easier it is to shift the weight with the limited power of wiper motors:

    Im looking at using 80mm centre to centre lever to start with and then make adjustments if required.

    With wipers and the mass of the rig you are likely to need much smaller CTC on the levers.

    I know there are pages and pages on different motors to use and my head is spinning trying to decide which way to go. So with my sim if I don't use wiper motors which motors would you suggest that I use. And from what I have read should I be using 2 x moto and 2 x PSU. I have been trying to build my sim as cheap as possible but I think I have got to a point where cheaper may cost me more in the long run. Any help would be appreciated. And with a foot mount do the motors have to be in front of the sim or can the sit under.

    In Australia we are lucky as we have easy access to quality motors via Motion Dynamics.

    Both shoulder and foot mount designs have lots of inherent leverage because of the length between the pivot point and the motors, much like the handles on a wheelbarrow.

    Yes you can mount the motors underneath, that is just a function of design, keeping in mind the physics and effect of design choices on load capacity and liner speed.

    When I started my project I wasn't going motion and I got the plans for this rig from steve @ ISRTV. But half way through I decided to go motion. without considering the weight issues. sim .jpg

    I decided to also make the triple monitor stand adjustable as I'm only using 22" screens at the moment so I could alter the angle of the outside monitors. But if I found that I need a lot of adjustment on the outside monitors son they lined up so I did away with the sliders I made and bought 2 swivel monitor mounts and use u blots to attach to the arms 20160514_102305.jpg 20160728_185924.jpg

    this might be a dumb question but is the Arduino code ( I'm using the one posted by @RacingMat ) the same for shoulder or foot mount.
