Pillowsack's First Motion Sim

    First time builder here looking for guidance and places to start for planning and ultimately building a motion sim. While I would love to go all out and do a 6dof sim, I am wondering if it would be better to cut my teeth on a 2dof sim.

    I am familiar with SketchUp and will be drawing up something there. I already have designed and ordered 80/20 for my first stationary cockpit. I will live with that while I plan a full motion sim.

    Would love some introductions from anyone and any starting points that you can offer.

    Hello easiest is the seat mover . that requires a pivot point usualy a universal joint (ideally 2 flanged) unless you can weld yourself see in marketplace for "double flanged military universal joint".

    you would need 2 motors for basic motion of the seat . the easiest is SNC5 (more expensive) or 12 volt DC motors with JRK polulu as controller . Cheapest than JRK controller would be Arduino with monster moto or sabertooth . The disadvanteage of Arduino is to have some elementary skills with the codes and Arduino . advantage of Arduino is the amount of output (up to 3 motors) whereas only one motor for JRK
    Now with this in mind go check the FAQ with those elementary guidelines

    I was thinking that might be a good starting point. I have an Arduino R3 and handful RC servos (RCs being my other money pit).

    I am trying to follow @eaorobbie and his code and settings but feels like it's incomplete or I am missing something as I am not getting any movement from my servos from game or output testing.

    While this isn't motion enabled at all, I wanted to post up some progress photos of static rig in it's phase 1 configuration. Subsequent phases will grow from a 2dof to 6dof.

    I still have the steering column to do but that will have to wait since I just sent my Fanatec wheel base out for repair. Otherwise she feels great. Seat is bit too narrow for my frame but I get used to it after sitting for awhile.

    First time using 80/20, cutting metal, and tapping threads but it all turned out very well so far and is super sturdy.

    Phase 2 of this rig will probably have a subframe with a pivot in the CoG and 2 worm gear motors at the back.

    Phase 3 is too complex at this point to even think about other than taking the feet off and plopping it down on top of a stewart platform lol.

    my first rig was something similar to that although not with 80/20. i made a platform and clamped it to it. the platform was connected to frex actuators in the corners but it depends on your budget. it was pretty straight forward though.

    Those pivots clamp down pretty hard. I can press on that brake pedal with all that I can muster and it doesn't budge. Once I torqued down every joint, it became rock solid. Was weary at first but now I have 100% faith in the rigidity. I'm 300lb+ guy so I definitely put it to the test.

    Still no motion yet but phase 1 is complete! I will put a few laps on it and see where any weak points are but so far feels really rigid.

    Phase 1.5 will happen over the weekend with some bass shakers. :D
