Wow seriously can't thank this community and site enough. Something that I thought for sure was going to be a daunting task was knocked out in a matter of hours and I got everything dialed in, in one night. I'll start a post of my build tonight - not sure if the prosimu ones are considered commercial? Thanks again!

Hi everyone from chilly Melbourne Australia!

I see there are a few of us Ozzies here which will help a lot with sourcing alternative parts.

I will be building a 6DOF stewart platform for my X-Plane 11 sim. I have read through every page from SilentChill and Wannabeaflyer2 so I know I will be in for quite a ride. I have just built my Anet A8 3D printer and upgraded it in preparation for making custom parts for the linear actuators. I already have a high end gaming pc for my HTC Vive which I use almost exclusively for helicopter flying.

I was going to start this project when I retired but after reading Wanna's journey, I thought "Why wait?"

I will start my own thread once I have tried to integrate what I have learnt so far.

This is such a great forum and a real community of sharing. Thanks to everyone for being so willing to share

    regards
    Paul

    Welcome @SixDegreesOfFlight.

You also want to spend some time studying a fellow Aussie @SeatTime's brilliant carbon fiber 6DOF with G-seat style paddles for sustained G-force simulation and motion controlled harness, it is an exquisite work of art backed by a lot of rigorousness experimentation and testing: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/seattimes-6dof-dc-build.6106/

Like you I have just ordered an Anet A8 and we have a growing FAQ 3D print section: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/3d-printing-no-printer-no-problem-use-the-hub.129/

And active 3D printer forum thread: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/3d-printing.158/

I look forward to following your project.

    Good Morning :)

Thought i would say hi, i have just started to build a wooden based 2Dof sim for DCS using VR, i have admired your setups for a while and thought i would give it a try.

The system i am building is a truck wiper motor with adrenuo and monster boards... im using this set up as a test to determine if its something i like. if it is then i plane on a 2nd build with a better setup.

So in advance i must thank you all for your help as im sure i will be asking some silly questions hehehehe..

Thank you and happy simming. :)

Hi new user in Seattle area.
I've been reading through various build threads, I think I'm going to try my hand at the DIY Actuators similar to WannabeFlyers build, my intent is to use them in a 2Dof rig initially and possibly migrate to something more complicated if I can make that work.

I had a couple of questions about integration, from what I can tell by reading the documentation Sim Tools just sends position information to the the target over Serial/Ethernet, is this correct?

I'm considering using Hybrid Servo/Stepper motors, with a 10mm pitch ballscrew (which I believe gives me a mechanical advantage of about 628:1). The hybrid servos don't have the same speed issues as steppers, even at 2000 RPM (330mm/s) they are close to 0.5NM of torque, are fully closed loop (no need for an external position sensor) and the controllers take simple Step/Dir or CCW/CW signals to drive.

To interpret the output from simtools, I'll write some control software for either a uController or FPGA board depending how adventurous I'm feeling. Because the driver is dealing with the PID loop, you don't have to worry about the nastiness of acceleration profiles, so it should be a very simple piece of code.

I didn't see anyone else using similar motors/drivers, but I assume something similar has been tried before?
I'm interested in any feedback anyone has on this.

It'll be a few weeks before I get a chance to start the build.

Hello from Finland! Joined you finally. Been doing some sim gear for a long time, but now it's time to take the next step. All my previous builds have been not moving platforms, with diy stuff included. One sim was made out of e36 bmw. Logitech Momo as base, cars own steering wheel etc. Fun projects!

As I stated, time to move to next level, and perhaps I might need someones help at some point. And your awesome looking SimTools :cheers

First, I get arduino and some micro servos to test my ideas on smaller scale.

Thanks for your site, been reading info for a while from here.

Hi, My name is Simon and I'm a sim racing addict. This is proving to be a potentially very expensive hobby.

I've been thinking about adding motion to my GT Omega Pro Rig. I currently run four (cheap) transponders in Chassis mode and SimCommander 4. I think a DIY motion rig might be beyond my skills capability, and found this forum while looking for T1000 3DOF rig reviews/discussions. It seems like a reasonably priced rig with the traction loss addition. I would prefer the option to keep my current rig so might need to look around here. I alos have Oculus Rift...just wow!

I'm not the most technical so please be gentle with me.

Happy Simming peeps...keep on keeping on!

Hi there Everyone, I'm Chris from Perth, Australia.

Been into sim racing since the G25 launched. Been interested in motion sims since force dynamics showed off their setup 10 years ago but haven't really looked into it much last 4-5 years. In the process of setting up a handbrake mod for my g920 and thought i'd look into it again and found this site!! wow the information is overwhelming! Can't believe i've been missing out on a cheap DIY solution all this time. I have a race car and do all my own work, i have built custom quadcopters and 3d printers using arduino platform so have some basic all round knowledge.

Now im looking into a 6dof setup using linear actuators similar to SeatTime's. Still working out the specs i'll need as i want to mount a 50" 4k tv as well so not sure if 12v will cut it weight wise (i'm 100kg), so you'll probably see me around in the near future picking your brains and asking noob questions haha.

Attached is my current setup i customised.. i now want to light in on fire after finding this site lol.

A 6DOF is a complex and costly project, but not impossible. You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs, including a specific 6DOF section and how to build a working model, which may be a good place to start: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

Hi! my name is Fran and I'm from Spain,

I have a 2Dof with 24V Wiper motors, with only seat mover base, G27 with an hidraulic handbrake. I have using it with another free program (I don't know if I can name it) and I'm sick of the dificult of use it, problems of conection (I have a USB Hub that I think have problems of power too) and I want to try other options and compare. My favorite games are Assetto Corsa, Project Cars and Dirt Rally. Now I'm looking to put 2 body shakers in the seat, the Simtools can't do it work with the standard program version?

I'm trying to understand the coin system to get the game plugins, I have to pay or to be active in forum? How many messages I need to get one coin?

thank you and see you all in the forum
