The issue is rendering power for VR and that lens are required to distort the image in the first place for VR.

Many quality issues on 4k model. I hope the 8k is better. I do not risk, for now I'm still with my cv1

I'm very excited by this but holding off. I'd prefer the 8k X for 90hz genuine 8k, but i'd rather wait til they confirm if a 1080ti can power it. If not then they should offer an 8kx with an upscaler so you can run in upscale mode until new cards are available or foveated rendering is solved.

I'm also concerned about distortion with such a big FOV. I think i believe them that their LCD tech is as bright as CV1 and has no ghosting.

It would be great if they'd sort out motion cancellation while they're at it. They seem focussed on serious enthusiasts and pushing boundaries.

What are you looking at in particular? Varjo is the only other one that catches my attention, with the rest being AR focussed. Maybe Magic Leap too.

Pimax is now emailing Kickstarter backers to nominate a preferred option for the 2 million stretch goal: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/74653l/pimax_is_polling_backers_for_the_2000000_stretch/

What gift would you like most for the $2m stretch goal? Posted by Pimax 8K VR (Creator)

    Hey futurists,

As you may have noticed, we haven't released the gift for the $2 million stretch goal yet. That part was left empty because we would like to hear from you, our core backers.

We have prepared the gifts as below for you to choose from:

    Coupon for the wireless module

Coupon for the eye tracking module

Coupon for the inside-out tracking module

Coupon for a super module to turn 8K PC VR into all-in-one 8K mobile VR (like Google Daydream)

I get these updates sent to me - so will throw a link here if anything interesting turns up. Hope it is not just all hype - like he admitted himself - he will be biased. I already own a Headset from this company and not only was it delivered not as advertised (2.5K and not a 4K) but had some serious distortion issues which luckily I was able to fix (so did not send it back) - although once I had fixed it (by adjusting the placement of the lenses) so it looked 'OK' for me, my son said it looked 'wonky' - so optics is not their strong point. Kept it, only due to a noticeably better image resolution then my CV1 and no God rays, but still find myself going back to the CV1 as it is just a better overall package and works for everyone. I note that the review states the 8K still does not have any real IPD adjustment and image distortion is still a issue 'v2 of their lens still has some distortion, apparently will be fixed in v3, but only have their word for that'. The company actually offered me over $100 off the kick starter price, but like I said - for me, once bitten twice shy - although I truly hope they can get their #it together for this one.

Could I buy the Pimax 5K Basic Kickstarter Special if I have a CV1 or must I have the Vive lighthouse system in order to use it?
There are still some units left and I'd like to go for one of them if I don't have to buy something else

You need a lighthouse type system.

As I understand it the Wireless Transmitter does not exist, even as a prototype. Hence there is a risk that they could get bogged down if they try and push too much out.

The HTC Vive has wireless transmission (for 500 US $). So, the thing is not impossible.
But, it is true that at that resolution, it may have hard time to push the information down the wireless pipeline.
We will see. First, they need to get to the 2000000$.

Indeed, there are huge technical challenges involved in wireless, if they had shown off a working prototype that would give some confidence but sadly that is not the case. They could perhaps re-purpose existing tech, much as they are doing using SteamVR Lighthouse for tracking.

A through the lens look at Project Cars 2, though there is no race action or significant load via effects, such as rain:

Wow, there is a serious amount of bending being done by those lenses - why so close to the instruments, how about looking down the track at some brake boards? My CV1 is OK at that distance and my PIMAX 2.5K is even better at 110 degrees FOV. Time and real world testing will tell - hype is just hype - although I wish them all the best.

So against my better judgement, decided to get on the

Funded the last 'Limited Edition - 8K X full package' - more comfortable with the 'dual' driven screen system over the single one and I do currently own a 1080 TI.

    It's only money ....
Well, I won't be alone if it all goes off the rails :).

Look forward to trying it out.
