All worm gearboxes are going to have some backlash, for lubrication purposes.

You could try a smaller lever CTC, you will loose some speed, gain some torque and reduce how noticeable the backlash is. A small amount of pre-load weight rather than perfect rig balance will also help reduce how noticeable the backlash is.

How much play do yours have?

This is not a DOF rig but is indicative of average wormdrive backlash, and the greater the lever CTC the more noticeable it will be:

yo i posted this on the euro truck thread but noorbeast told me to also write it here:

can anyone please help with my issue? i can't get either one of them to work with my sim. I installed their plugins, i patched them both in game manager (i patched in my steam directory which is (G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2), but when i enter game it just does not work. I have 3DOF version P3. Project cars 2, nolimits 2, assetto corsa, need for speed most wanted (2012) and dirt rally all work. But these two + DCS aren't working... anyone have any idea what i'm doing wrong?

Can anyone share their axis settings they are using for Elite Dangerous with the Dofreality rig? Right now the latest Horizons plugin is super jerky for me and the motions seem off ie. when I pitch forward or back I also get a bit of roll, etc.

I can't help with settings for a dof reality rig, but you can use these steps to refine your motion profile: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/steps-to-create-a-motion-profile.228/

You will likely find filters useful, particularly smoothing and washout return and gain.

Thanks, is it possible to do this in a separate window while in-game so I don't have to exit and restart a million times to try out new settings?

In Game Manager, top left, you can turn it off while the game is running, make changes in Game Engine, then turn Game Manager back on and test in the game.

I literally can't get a SINGLE flying sim to work. DCS: not working. Patched it, changed every direction in axis assignments, nothing. Chose a quick mission btw, the one where you start in mid air. Aerofly fs2: simtools game engine crashes whenever i open the game. X plane: nope. But at least i can feel the motors start when i enter the game. I chose the flight school, basics. I even changed these settings: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/x-plane-udp-settings.259/

But still, nothing :/ . i don't know why these flight sims aren't working. I got dirt rally, PC 2, assetto corsa, Richard burns rally, and american truck simulator ALL working perfectly fine. Has anyone got any of these programs to work..? Any help would be much appreciated.

With X-Plane it sounds like you need to refine the motion profile, concentrate on roll and pitch first and make sure you capture Tuning Center values: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/steps-to-create-a-motion-profile.228/

That may also be the case for DCS, but there are a number of other possible variables at play.

The main thing is you need to post pictures of ALL of your settings.

for dcs, i changed the path of the patch and i got it working lol.
for x plane i didn't do all the settings mentioned in the x plane tutorial thread. Now works.
if anyone wants me to post my working settings, just ask and i shall deliver.
    Got two questions though:

1- what does surge, heave and sway do in FLIGHT sims? in driving sims, surge is the force you feel when you accelerate, brake, or change gears. Sway is the when your body shifts from left to right when you steer left and right. And heave is (i think) bumps in the road..? but does anyone know what these three do in flight sims..? and what's the best way to check in game if they're working as they're supposed to or not?

2- when i roll more than 180 degress from the right for example, the seat suddenly goes from the maximum right roll angle, to complete left. Not smooth and not natural at all. Is there a fix for this? same thing happens when you do loops in nolimits 2 for rollercoasters

Radioproffi do you have a website, Twitter, Facebook? I am interested in buying the pro version (possibly a couple) I’d like to go through some queries I have in detail so I know which add ons I need and a few other things. Top job though, it looks awesome, I bought a static one as the motion ones I seen were £25k+, if I had seen this I wouldn’t have made that mistake

    Thanks

Fascinating thread, and thanks for all the detailed contributions. I'm currently investigating affordable motion rigs for sim racing and went from thinking this could be my ideal solution on page one to having various concerns by page seventeen.

The DOF Reality H3 is the model that grabbed my attention as it seems like good value for the price ($1,800 dollars converted to sterling at today's rate = approx £1,300 here in the UK) but the shipping cost ($350 or £250) seems excessive. Add 20% VAT to that, plus £450 import duty that somebody got stung for (which seems random, but the risk is there) and the price hits £2,310, almost bang-on the cost of a Next Level Motion Sim V3, which is the other unit on my radar.

I know the DOF Reality H3 has the BIG draw of rear traction loss, but the slack in the worm gear has me concerned, along with the general balancing requirements and some build quality concerns (especially the snapped pedal deck arm). I also do ALL of my gaming in my current static cockpit, so it's vital that the seat returns to a solid, neutral position when motion isn't in use, but it seems a few users have commented that it stops slightly off-kilter, leaving the seat at an odd angle?

Andy Booth, many thanks - your detailed comments have been particularly useful, but there's no way I want to go through what you've had to endure. I really do want as close as possible to plug 'n' play solution right now. I'm really torn right now about which way to progress.

    1. I think, for flight sim important use ROLL and PITCH instead Sway and Surge.
    2. You can use Standard profile mode in Axes Assignments (GameEngine) and add some filters like Smoothing for each effect.

Ahh thanks. So surge, sway, and heave don't do anything race sims? can you confirm @noorbeast?

Also, so if i add like 100% smoothing for roll and pitch that 180 issue will be fixed? cause i'm not too familiar with the smoothing/deadzone and those stuff

I did the same mod with the M6 bolt. Still a bit of slack in the gears and motor. Its much better now.
