Just came home from vacation and got my universal joint from Amazon and my power supply from Mouser in the mail.
Not really part of my build, but I also got my Thrustmaster F1 wheel add-on :)

I'd appreciate some comments/advice around the shaft specs. I went with 12mm diameter, 50mm length double shaft with screw. There is an option for keyway though.

Since the minimum order was for 5, I went with 6 so I would have a capability to go to 6dof in the future. The other option would be to build 2 rigs, one following the dofreality design and the other following the Simukit design ala momoclic. That would give me the best of both worlds and see what I prefer, heave vs sway.

Been banging my head against the wall trying to decide on the shaft specifications until I stumbled upon this picture uploaded by @CLEOPHUS .
Since I had ordered the 12mmx6.35 couplers, I thought I had to stick with 12mm shaft diameter. But with a center hole I could screw a bolt/screw with 12mm head and have a beefier/stronger shaft of 20mm.

So I messaged Kenny Deng and asked for 2omm diameter, 70mm length, keyed, with center whole. Hopefully it's not too late.

Might as well add a picture. Played a few races and I swear I'm a bit faster :)

Reaped the benefits of work decommissioning some old servers. I can run these in series to get 24V for my second rig.

Got my IBT_2's in. Funny how I instinctively bought 6 at the time when I was only planning on buying 3 motors... guess I'll have to buy more backups!

Are other members just taking off the heatsink and reappling new thermal paste, or are they adding small heat sinks on the other side like with the moto monsters?

So I tried a motion simulator of the first time using iRacing on the VRX:

I didn't think it was all that great lol. I felt the shifts and bumps, but it lacked any real sensation when turning.
I think I want the maximum amount of roll I can get out of my rig and will have to design accordingly.

I also tried the Vive at the Microsoft Store and LOVED it. I'm going to pre-order the Pro as soon as it is released.

I try to Dbox style set up and felt the same as you. My SCN system seat shaker provided much more feedback especially an acceleration and breaking. I even felt my dc motor system held up well against the dbox feeback for 1/10 of the cost.

I think you will find it is sway that will give you greatest turning sensation as opposed to roll.

And welcome to another canadian. Im only 3.5 hours out of calgary.

My Auras and amp came in from PartsExspress. They are bigger than I thought and I will have adjust the rig design to incorporate mounting plates at the 4 corners. Not sure if even I needed 4 and thought about using 2 in the home theatre. Anyone with an opinion one way or the other?

4 will let you set them up to simulate each wheel, which is preferential, but it is up to you.
