[PIMAX] All about the VR headsets

    Distorsion for me happends when I turn my head and I am looking a the edge of the lens. When the image pass from center to the edge, this is when I notice the warping. But in game, this is rarely the case. I mostly look at the center and use edge only for peripheral movement. But it's there. It does not bother me that much.

    I have thicker face padding that I used for my Vive. I will try those this weekend.

    That can be solved changing the soft face padding and putting one that fits your face features. Pimax have made 1 standard that does not suit different facial features

    I have both a Rift and Vive and somewhat disagree, as I run different face pads on both, but for different reasons.

    I use a thin face pad on the Vive, as it improves the perceived size of the sweet spot, which is smaller than the Rift's, and helps do the same with the FOV.

    I use a softer face cover on the Rift, as I find the original too hard. Some people with glasses use a slightly thicker face pad on the Rift, as it does not accommodate glasses as well as the Vive and does not have the Vive's eye relief adjustment.

    So in my view all HMDs have some design compromises and that is not really surprising, given how new consumer VR is and how ergonomically difficult it is to make a single device for all the various head and face shapes.

    Fair points. It just surprised me, I've just not noticed ANYONE have this problem with the other hmds but as you say it's an easy enough fix.
    I'm tempted by the pimax but holding out for oculus later this year...

    I tried the thicker pad this weekend and it was catastrophic.

    First, the pad was make for the Vive and it did not fit well with the Pimax, way too small. I was losing part of the visual field with it.

    Second, that pad was so unconfortable when use with the Pimax, I could not stand it more than a few minutes.

    Last but not least, when I get my eye to far away from the lens, the far end of the display gets unajusted with the center. Because the right end lens completes the left center image hiden by your nose. If you get too far, nothing fits anymore.

    So for me, it is only Pimax's pad. I have not look to see if any companie have made pad replacement for them, but it must not be too thick, otherwise, they will mess up the whole experience.

    I think it is the same with me with the vive 's pad. I am using the pimax's pad but I added to the bottom (around my cheek bones) soft pad. The problem is that there is space around the nose and I can see the floor. I wish pimax or someone would start selling pads for the pimax for different facial features.

    Are you getting motion sickness when using the pimax in car games?
    Without even using the 6 dof rig of dofreality that I have, i am getting sick for using the pimax in car games

    No. I have a vive , a dk2 , a gearvr andpsvr. I do not feel sick with any of them in non sim car gaming. Never tried vr for car gaming with the other headsets. For sure with a pimax I am getting sick with non sim car games and with sim car games. I have a feeling that it is due to the not perfectly fit I have with the headset

    Oh, I think you should get rid of it immediately! I will PM you my address:). Seriously though, the wider field of view will amplify the 'sickness ' effect. Need to take baby steps and become acclimatised. Good Motion will also help.

    I might sell at some point the 8k. I backed also the 8k x and I do not think I would keep both but I think at some point I want to go for the starvr (if not gone off business) or the xtal if they can get their field of view wider than the 8k. I would like to feel full immersion in vr without seeing the border of the panels . With the other headsets it was like wearing goggles. Now with the pimax feels like wearing a scuba mask.

    I have only tried No limit 2 roller costers with my Pimax and I stopped it right away as I got a strong feeling of discomfort. A lot more than my Vive. But with my rig soon be ready, I should be able to test it with motion. (At my pace, that means in one year or two).

    I wonder why we are getting more discomfort with the pimax compared to the vive. Maybe the bigger fov creates this feeling?

    The wider fov IS more immersive. I quite sure it is why the motion sickness is easier to obtain on the Pimax, but I have no independents study to back me up.

    Germany seems to be the hot topic on the forums as a lot of backers are getting theirs when others should have been first elsewhere. Backer #4280 here in Australia so I've no idea when mine will be getting here. Their shipping spreadsheet shows it's left China but who knows where it is. I've not received a tracking number or notification at all.
