Yes, without tracking all you have is pitch, roll and yaw which come from the Headsets internal Gyro.

    Latest Pimax update announcement:

    Update #36

    Hi Futurists,
All of us at Pimax want to thank you once again for your support!
To begin with here is some information on the most important topic – getting your new Pimax to your door. As of January 30th, we have shipped a total of 5,055 headsets, including 4,228 units of the Pimax 5K+ and 827 units of the Pimax 8K. While our ramp-up has been quite successful this month we still have *over 500 backers who have not provided us with a confirmed shipping address. Please check the following spreadsheet announced in our forum, here is the link: https://forum.pimaxvr.com/t/spreadsheet-update-29th-jan-2019/13865

If your backer number on the spreadsheet shows ‘ship info unfilled’please send your shipping information to Pimax Support via email([support@pimaxvr.com](mailto:support@pimaxvr.com)).

We will update your shipping information on the shipping list and arrange your shipment as soon as possible. When emailing please include: 1) backer number, 2) your full name 3) your choice 8k or 5k+ and 4) your full shipping address.

We would also like you to know we have completed both the production and shipment of all Pimax 5K+ Kickstarter orders with confirmed addresses. These headsets are either already shipped to backers or on the way to the local overseas warehouses. 8K orders have been partially shipped but due to the Chinese Spring Festival, all logistcs companies are now on holiday so we will continue shipping right after the holidays. We officially begin our holiday today which lasts from February 2nd through February the 10th. Work will resume on February 11th so any emails and other communications with our team will receive replies after we resume on February 11th.

Happy Chinese Spring Festival to you all!

My pimax 5k+ is due for delivery tomorrow (pre-order). It’s weird, but after all the reports on the pimax forums I’ve no expectations for this thing being any good. Still haven’t bought a vive lighthouse or controller to set it up for fear of disappointment. I think I’ll try and set it up without positional tracking first and see what the image is like before putting more money into it. If it’s as bad as I expect I’ll put it on eBay. It will be a huge surprise if it doesn’t have issues.

I am happy for you but pretty peeved at Pimax, as I and other Kickstarter backers still don't have a tracking number or any certainty as to when our HMDs will be delivered.

@noorbeast I agree completely. It is nothing less than a scandal. That’s another reason why it’s hard to have high expectations for the headset. I’ve been on and off the fence about pre-ordering for a long time in the lead up and I even tried to cancel the pre-order (they never replied). If you look beyond the SweViver fanboy types there are a lot of possible flaws in choosing this headset and company.

I set my expectation low in the beginning, because of the technical challenges involve, so in that respect Pimax has probably turned out to be better than my low expectations, but it is really for enthusiast tinkerers at the moment and is not yest ready on the software side for consumer prime time.

The handling of fulfillment of Kickstarter deliveries has been abysmal and more of a lucky dip rather than first come first serve, and Pimax delivering pre-orders before Kickstaters really is a backhand to those who made the Kickstater record funding a reality.

But to be fair, both Oculus and HTC were equally as bad when it came to Rift and Vive pre-orders being delivered in Australia, I was in the first 100 for both but waited while others after me had got theirs, sometimes months earlier. Same thing happened with the DK1 and DK2.

When purchasing a product on kickstarter though you're really just investing money in a company. If you receive a good product it's considered a gain since you paid less than retail and if not a loss. If you never want to loose anything don't invest.

I was not talking about the risk of buying into a Kickstarter, but rather how badly Pimax has handled delivery to those backers, including assurances Kickstarter backer deliveries would be complete prior to pre-order deliveries beginning.

It wasn't a reply to your post just a general comment.

Seems Pimax has been caught out again in deliberately misleading Kickstarter backers and pre-order consumers, when they promised they would complete Kickstarter orders before commercial sales commenced. Not only are pre-orders now being received ahead of 5k and 8k Kickstarter orders, you can actually but a retail 8k+ BE (business Edition), which is exactly the same as the consumer version other than the branding:

Well I got my 5k+. First impressions aren’t very good. The distortion is absolutely terrible. It completely breaks immersion and negates any benefit of the increased field of view. I also have sparkling white pixels flashing on both screens. It’s also more uncomfortable than the DK1. QC is a serious issue with this company.

I’m waiting for a reply from pimax support.

I suppose the sparkles could be a bad video cable, or if you're lucky just a loose connector.

My impression from reading reviews/discussions is that placement is key to reducing distortion. Multiple owners have said that adding another layer of padding (such as an old Vive VR cover) to move the headset a bit farther from their face ended up making it better (as well as more comfortable).

I've also seen it implied that the distortion maps they use might still be a bit rough and could be improved over time by calibrating them more accurately to the lenses. I specifically recall a while back some experts complaining that Pimax was apparently using some really inferior equipment/method to measure the lens distortion to create those maps.

That said, I haven't yet seen the distortion in person; my 5K+ is here but so far I've either been too busy or too sick to even start dealing with fussy new software+hardware. I have however been preparing for it by getting a Vive deluxe strap, printing adapters, and ordering extra padding for the back of the strap (and I already have some old VR covers).

Latest Pimax comments from Pimax USA re a range of current concerns and issues: https://forum.pimaxvr.com/t/pimaxusa-answers-recent-questions/15196/4

Be aware that companies typically do not release information on pricing or availability of unreleased products or services. As soon as news for those items becomes available we will do a general release of information.

Some info in no particular order:
8K shipping topic - We have 3 SKU’s shipping and just shipped 392 8K’s in two batches with many more shipping daily.

RMA policy etc… topic- a couple of posters publicly stated they would not return their devices even after their received a new one and encouraged others to do so. This caused the policy to change until completion of a better system.

PiTool - new version currently in testing (106) coming in a matter of days, old versions will eventually be deprecated.

Rigid head strap, controller topic - actively working on those but no news until the GTC time frame.

Basestations when? - No news there. Wish we could but can only say it is progressing.

BE topic - it is in small scale production. Will ramp it up after the 8K’s are completed. It has no bom changes etc. from those that were reviewed.

UK shipping topic - many units arrived there, many delivered or about to be delivered, enough in the local warehouse to cover all users but still some issues getting the forwarder to agree on some of the addresses (very few of those now).

Other regions for 5K+ shipping topic, sufficient 5K+ shipped to cover all backers, everywhere provided the address was ok.

Addresses topic - We did not do a good job at all collecting, organizing and proofing backer addresses. Way more complex than it seems. Clearly there were/are more efficient ways to have attacked this problem as some have pointed out. Fully staffed local warehouses will solve this issue.

Pre-Orders shipping topic etc. All 5K+ for backers shipped at least to the warehouses before pre-orders, time to arrive varies. i.e. arrival before does not mean shipped before. Keep in mind these are nearly double the backer price and do not include the perks. 8K’s and BE’s to dealers - these were very small test shipments, though I would agree even small shipments to these guys before everybody gets theirs not a great idea. I would have counciled against it had I been asked.

Defects topic - Forum data is totally anecdotal. Most post numerous times discussing a single issue which badly skews the perception. The perception was increased further by high profile defects with Nathie and Tyriel. Actual defect level especially for the earliest units produced is too high but far smaller than has been speculated. The total for all units produced with any issue reported (including ones that turned out not to be hardware) is about 8%. The number on currently produced hmd’s is a far lower number than that.

5K+ inventory status - literally every unit produced was shipped out to the regional warehouses.

Unattractive new logo topic - yep we are aware of that and working on something quite nice. Long story on that one but it will be fixed.
