    @hannibal ,

Good luck on your build! Seems like youre taking it slow which isn't something I tend to do if I have a plethora of information lol... MMs WILL be hit or miss as Ive stated before but if you test them prior you should be ok! Fingers crossed! :p

thanks @SimMeInMD ! i wish i can just pick one build from the forums and build it. but i havent seen anything detailed enough to follow. plus im still debating on going 4DoF or 6Dof

Doing some research and planning is time well spent, including kicking around ideas, and the community here can help you out as you work out what you want to build and even where you can source parts from.

just started to read about wiring topics and arduino code..
finding out that @RacingMat 's wiring doesnt necessarily fit..
    trying to follow

    and

    https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...cts-as-a-single-motor-driver-more-power.5482/

sorry if i keep reposting other peoples links.. there is so much info, trying to figure out what info is representative of a full size build after trying to build a model...

Monster Moto Shield acts as a single motor driver tutorial didnt work so well for me... seem like the drivers got hot.. im just using hobby motors!

trying to share photos... small step! just getting test parts wired up!
i hope the 100K pot will be ok for test.

    today i:
    1. Wire up the Arduino with MM and connect to your computer via USB (Motor Power left disconnected)
    2. Installed the Arduino IDE tools
    3. Download the SMC3 software attached to this post (SMC3.ino) v1.0
    4. Open the SMC3.ino with the Arduino IDE
    5. Used Mode 1 for the monster moto shield
    6. Compile and Uploaded the SMC3.ino program to Arduino UNO R3
    7. Run the Windows SMC3 Utility software and established communication with the Arduino
    8. Set the Kp, Ki, Kd, PWMmin, PWMmax, PWMrev to 0 for ALL motors on SMC3 utility
    9. Set Clip to 255 (you need to do this first) and Limit to 255 on SMC3 utility
    10. Plugged in motor power supply
    11. Set Kp to about 400 in SMC3 utility
    12. TURN ON motors on the SMC3 utility
    13. Now slowly, increase PWMmax and watch the motor move...
IS THIS A NORMAL THING THAT THE MONSTER MOTO SHIELD GETS HOT???

    *** continuation
    1) downloaded and installed LFS
    2) downloaded and installed Simtools
    3) ran Simtools engine, enabled DoF1 for Axis1A, 2A, and 3A under axis assignments
    4) set Interface type as Serial, Com port, BPS to 500,000, Data Bits to 8, Parity to None, Stop bits to 1, Output Bit range to 10, Output type to Binary, and interface output to [A<Axis1a>][B<Axis2a>][C<Axis3a>] @ 10ms
    5) played around output testing

No... perhaps if you used original MM ...
    Or Sabertooth...

im going to try another fake MM.

the overall setup and tutorial seemed easy by @RufusDufus was not bad at all...
i mean is this really the heart of all DIY motion sim's- the SMC3 code?

How does one deal with 6Dof, the tutorial lays out means by 3 motors... does achieving 6 Dof means butting (2x) 3Dof's into one 6Dof?

    *** update***
as i was getting ready to wire up the second MM, i discovered that i wired the motors wrong..
i was so concerned with the polarity, i was following the board contact designations instead of the diagram...
once i wired the motors as per @RufusDufus diagram, it worked!!! i can turn the pot CW and CCW, and the motor rotation goes FWD and REV!!
the only thing is that the MM gets hot...

thank you for suggestion about 3x arduino + 3x sabertooth!
now i have to debate if to go Arduino/Sabertooth or JRK...

in the mean time, i just want to complete the tutorial, try the other MM, and get it to work with LFS!

@noorbeast u dont know how much your replies mean to me! im sure with the occasional new users, you end up repeating your self over and over lol
    many many thanks!

You will want some sort of cooling before you burn an MM out, here is an example: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/xilence-cooler-for-moto-monster-sparkfun.211/

Most of the time I am just drawing people's attention to what we have already gathered together in the FAQs, with the FAQs being a gateway to a treasure trove of member contributed information.

lol. i can cook some eggs.

this was all a test.. i think im ready to buy real components.
so, i was able to use the simtools game engine to affect the motor going FWD and RWD.
although i didnt attach the pot to the motor drive shaft to get proper testing...
the experience was enough to give me an idea of how this all comes about, especially from all the info from this website.

i find it amazing that it is possible to make a 6Dof system instead of buying someone elses and paying tons of money for it..
but i see everyone's joy in the building.
this is so much fun! :)

my next task is to decide Sabertooth or JRK.. have to see how expensive these things are...
i like that for the Sabertooth, there is a 60Amp version and that the SMC3 utility allows testing..
Does the JRK have testing software?
