    Hi.
Back in 1997 I made a simulator pod with home made (mix of steel and wood) steering wheel and pedals.
At the time I was also racing a real RX-7 in the State Championships (Australia).
Rally has always been my thing. So DiRT 2.0 and WRC 8 is amazing.

It's funny - I just looked at an old video of it and F1 Monaco game play and pod's immersion hasn't changed that much.

Forward 20yrs and I'm dabbling with the idea of getting back into SimRacing.

My other hobby is hobby machinist - so I can fabricate pretty much anything with my workshop.
And I was an embedded engineer - so I have the electronics down.
I'd ignored motion rigs for a long time coz the telemetry wasn't there in the games - but it is now.
Discovering SimTools and FlyPT is really motivating.
Oh I also work at NVIDIA so that has some advantages too :)

    Hello,

I am a newbie to this forum and currently collecting ideas for a 6DoF platform powered by an Arduino for my son. (Ok a bit for myself too).

I have printed a small scale model which works mechanically quite good, now I am up for the next step, go full scale.
The source of the parts is a bit of a problem here in far north Australia.

Otherwise, yo will hear from me, here or there.

Thanks for your help in advance.

    Cheers
    Chris

    Hi,
I'm Daniel and for a long time I have been designing and building my 2dof sim. For a long time because I made it for a school project when I was younger, unfortunatelly in this project I only got to build it and wasnt capable to make it work.
Since I went studying to the University I got no time to work in it and set it sometime apart unable to work out where some faults were. Lately since we should stay at home I got time and knowledge enough to make it work and I achieved my goal. Now the sim works and I'm able to tune it slightly.
I'll post the evolution of my personal project when I have time to do so, so hopefully I can help somebody with the problems I had and how I overcomed them.
    Thanks

    Hi All.

I am planning on building a 6DoF system and joined the community for inspiration. I am a mechatronics engineer so hoping I can use some professional experience, and potentially help others.

Quick question however, that I can't seen to find a clear answer for. If creating a 6DoF system, can I add additional actuators/motors (belt tensioner etc) using SimTools? I am unsure at this stage if there is a hard limit on the number of inputs.

    Cheers.

    Welcome @Username.

A 6DOF is an ambitious first project, being an engineer will help..

You will find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs to get you started, in particular check out the design and 6DOF sections, plus the SimTools manual: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

SimTools can be set with a and b axis allocations, so can handle 12 axis, so plenty of capacity for additions such as harnesses, G-seat and the like.

You can go through existing member projects for specific ideas or inspiration, in particular have a good look at some of the most recent 6DOF builds, as they introduce some new refinements and hardware options: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Please be aware that you can dual language post but it is part of the Forum Rules that you also include English, doing so via Google Translate is fine: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/forum-rules.9527/

That said see here re registering SimTools: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/how-to-register-simtools-2-0.9720/

Hi All - I don't have room for a motion rig but I am planning to add an active belt tensioner to my stationary rig using Simtools, an Arduino Uno, and large RC servos. I don't have access to a 3D printer so I plan to make the rollers and all supports from PVC and 2020 aluminum extrusion. I will use micro RC servos to test my system and 3D modeling software to design the physical aspects. Once I understand the elements I will build it!.

Once I get a bit further along I will start a thread.

    Thanks,

    Mars

Hi I am Tahir from Germany, 32 yeras old, Industrial Engineer (not sure if it helps)
I recently got into simracing. Not playing excessively maybe 1-1,5 hours a day, but still enjoying.

Currently I enjoy Dirt Rally 2.0 (for offroad) and Project Cars 2 (for GT/TC cars) though I want to shift to Assetto Corsa as I dont like the multiplayer and some other things in PCars 2.

I just bought a Thrustmaster TX with the Ferrari wheel, and if you know that product you know it has decent base but cheap wheel and even cheaper pedals. I have to put some foam behind the brake pedal to make it workable. It's ok for starters but as I progress I want something more realistic.

So I thought why not DIY (the accecories are quite expensive, Fanatec wants 130€ for a simple handbrake and Thrustmaster even 250€, come on!!, and lets not even start with Fanatec wheels) I have many tools which I can use at home and my father has even a welding machine. My future projects look probably like this:

    1) Transducer/Bass shaker for my chair
    2) Simple Button box
    3) Drift Handbrake
    4) Sequential Shifter
    5) Pedals with load cell
    6) 1 Wheel for Rally with rev LED lights and some buttons
    7) 1 Wheel for GT with paddle shifters and display
not sure about the wheels though because I might need a 3D Printer

And if I am done with all of that, lets see about DD wheel base and motion simulator :)

I am glad to find this community. I'm sure I can find lots of help here.
