I am about to buy my first VR headset

Pretty confused about what to buy tbh

Something i am unsure about is motion cancellation, I guess it stops the image jumping about as you move on the sim

So which model do i get ?

I am quite liking the FOVE system with its built in eye tracker

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated

It depends a bit on your budget and personal VR priorities.

FOVE is a dev kit not really a consumer VR HMD.

The Rift S is a pretty good budget PC HMD. No motion cancellation.

The Oculus Quest with Link cable can do stand alone and PC VR, but it has a lower FPS and can have some artifacts, it is also front heavy and in my view needs the Vive DAS mod and new face cushion to be comfortable. No motion cancellation.

The Reverb has good resolution but not great comfort and has hard lines in peripheral edges. The controller tracking is not great, but that is not an issue for a sim rig. No motion cancellation.

The Index is about the pinnacle of Gen 1 PCVR, with great tracking, including motion cancellation, slight increase in Gen 1 FOV, good comfort, great audio and controllers, but it is pretty expensive and not available in many countries.

Pimax HMDs have the best FOV, good clarity but some small distortion, there is the new comfort kit and it includes motion cancellation in the PiTool software. I use a 5k+ with DAS mod on my rig, as the Index is not available in Australia. Pimax is well known for over promising and under delivering after long delays, and also needs a lot more tweaking. I do not consider Pimax a great all round HMD, as it takes too many individual tweaks to get the best out of it, but it is pretty good for a sim rig when it comes to FOV and can be dialed in for a limited number of games. Pimax is also expensive.

    Hi Gadget
I have the Pimax 5k+ and can say the motion cancellation works really great with a Vive tracker. That will be an important point if you will have great movements. The headset is good - when its working....

Is the motion cancellation something that works with any vr headset, or is it different for each rype ?

Not sure it is sold anymore, more chances on second hand market, the samsung odyssey + works great, very good screen door effect removal system. Probably the best bang for buck if you have a large IPD. Entry level price for mid level perf

For me, it's the HP Reverb G2 that has me the most excited for racing and flight sims. Can't wait for it's release next month, hope it's as good as the previewers are saying!

I started with the Rift S then changed to the Reverb after about 8 months and never looked back. The clarity is so much better, but the software setup with Windows, DCS and Steam is not as easy as with Oculus. It wasn't comfortable to wear at first, but with a few adjustments, it's fine now.

Haven't had any issues with that, however the room it's in doesn't get much warmer than 20C, so could be an issue in warmer climates. Don't know how they compare to earlier models as the Rift S was my first.

Wow thanks for the information. The thing that has always kept me away from VR was people complaining they were hot to wear which was a real negative for me. Might be time to take a second look.

I ended up buying a FOVE headset

quite a powerful headset with good resolution and frame rate

VR makes me feel sick so i have not used it much to be honest - my son loves it and explains the depth of view helps with driving games. You are always faster with VR
