    Hello everyone.
My name is Mike and I want to build my first 2dof with traction loss.
I've been reading the forum for quite a long time and will soon start my own DIY thread.
I have garage facilities and IT knowledge, but no experience.
I'm counting on your help ;)

    Best regards.

    Heyho, I'm Erik.

A few months ago a friend gifted me American Truck Simulator on Steam. I quickly discovered that I couldn't drive by keyboard input. A button is either on/off without any gradient. So I searched craigslist and found an old Logitech Driving Force GT set for $100. Immediately upped my game in American Truck Simulator, but I quickly grew bored of that game and the wheel sat idle for many months.

Fast forward to a few days ago, I downloaded Dirt Rally 2.0 because the wheel set was taking up too much room if I wasn't going to use it and I didn't want to sell it without trying another game first. Holy Crap... What a life changer.

I haven't had a video game blow my mind since Mario went 3D on Nintendo 64. Prior to that all the video games had been either side-scrolling or top-down view. Suddenly Mario was in an open sandbox world that you could explore. He could move 360 degrees in any direction! They also had buzz haptics in the controller, which was the first time anybody had done tactile feedback to my knowledge.

Anyways, playing Dirt Rally 2.0 with the Logitech DFGT wheel with feedback was similarly mind blowing for me. Sucked me back into video games like I haven't been in 30 years.

So I get to thinking. If a decade old bit of kit can be that mind blowing for me, what about VR... what about FFB in the seat... what about motion...

So here I am down that rabbit hole. I've already looked through all the commercially available motion kits and decided that I really wanna play with 80/20 and homebrew something fantastic. Also gives me time to brain it all out in exquisite detail before I drop a dime on anything.

My research thus far seems to indicate that chasing g-force simulation with big dramatic movements is very immersive, but less important than the feedback from suspension telemetry which is better delivered from a rigid platform with four-actuators. So in the quest for all that is good without compromise I'm wondering about the feasibility of doing this....

SimX G Seat with Stage 1 motion rig, combined with spring tensioned harness will give good g-force simulation.

Then mount that whole contraption on a 4-actuator rigid frame with buttkicker, possibly with traction loss.

That seems like a solid upgrade path but I want to know how feasible the final assembly I am imagining would be? Would all those systems jive well together to create a wholly immersive experience? Or am I adding system over system in a big muddled mess. Like playing two different songs over top of each other doesn't create "more music" but just a discordant cacophony.

Looking forward to learning a lot here.

    Welcome Erik!

Great community here. Everyone is very helpful and knowledgeable.

They got me through my initial pains with my rig, but as norbeast so aptly pointed out: "Many of us are still working our way through the DIY motion sim rabbit hole..."

    Enjoy and participate often!

Hi, I'm Chicho, I love difficult projects and for years I've wanted to build my racing simulator. I have great skills for mechanics and welding, the electronic part is a bit difficult for me, but today with the tutorials on the Internet, you can do everything.
I am build a 3 engine rig using vehicle parts.
Starting with electronics and that's where I have doubts, I'll tell you if I need them.

    Thanks

    Hello friends,

I’m Rogier from the Netherlands and just ordered the first parts for a 6DOF with linear actuators. I’ll attempt to take the brushless / solo uno route and plan to equip the actuators with compression springs to limit the energy consumption of the system.

I’m greatly inspired by all the fantastic builds you all put together and hope that one day I’ll have my own rig up and running.

    Hi Rogier,
    wellcome to the party!
so nice to see somebody going the solo-uno-route! For me this seems to be a verry promising motor- controller with good customer support. So good chance to get a great simulator! I wish you all the best and great success. If you have any question-you are allways wellcome.

    Hello All,

I'm Brice, from France. a moving seat is in my head since a long but as an expat it's quite hard to start something so "big". Fortunately i'm now based in France for some time with some "working from home" rules, and my recent purchase of a Quest 2 push back the idea on the top of my head. At first i looked at ready made 3DOF but the cost stopped me quite quickly ^^'. I was not expecting that the DIY has developped so much ! DIYer are amazing ! you are amazing but i have an issue... No i'm Joking.
I have some 3D printers, some DIY, and available CNC (DIY too) and by reading various tutos i gave a try. I have now an Arduino with 3 servos, simtools and LFS working !! next step will be with a 12V wiper's motor and a VNH5019. then we will see, i'm not yet fixed if i'll go for a 3DOF or 6DOF with worm gear motor or Actuator... the budget will drive i guess.

So... i have a lot to read in order not to ask an for an already solved issue ! RTFM !! ^^

as we say in french : Longue vie au Forum !

Hi! My name is Daniel and is new on this forum and i have not built anything yet.
Have read alot o posts in here regarding car simulators and especially those using VFD and 3 phase induction motors. The reason i am looking at 3 phase motor driven simulators is at that i can get hold of many parts for free because of my job. I run my own business together with my brother and another
colleague and we work with repairing professional kitchen appliances. When we install new products the old ones is scrapped but some of the old parts on the machines can still be used for private hobby such as old VFD:s and small electrical motors. The motors is usually 3ph induction motors from old broken waterpumps and such
and i was thinking of using that for my first project. Do you think it will work with that kind of motors?

    /Daniel
