DIY 2 DOF Sim from household junk

Hi,
This is my first try at this. Building it for my grandson so not alot of money to dump into it so i made due with a lot of stuff i had laying around.

I bought 2 wheel chair motors on ebay for 30.00 a piece. From my research they are from the higher powered wheel chairs that handle 600lb loads. They are 26.1:1 24v 120rpm. Unfortunately they both where from the same side of the wheel chair so i had to turn one around backwards but seems fine. Tell ya one thing this thing can about throw me out of the chair so no problem with power. Im running 2, 12v 70amp server supplies hooked in series to get 24v. If you do that make sure you read how to be safe about it as you have to float one.

The metal frame was from a table frame i cut up and welded. The base is just wood. The side rails are from an old gaming table that i cut down and welded extra braces on. I used some old bed frame metal for the tv support part. Has a u-joint i cut off a drive shaft.

The seat was an old computer chair i took off the wheels and such its heavy so i do plan on buying a nice racing seat sometime down the road.

The wheel is just a cheap one for now.

The shifter i made from a 12.00 joystick from ebay that you can set for just up and down movement. So it just shifts up and down. Also has 5 buttons i can assign. To make it work i used the board inside an old game pad and wired the switches and joystick to it and shoved it all in a metal box. It works just fine.

Im just now starting to tweak things so I will add more here as i go and make a video soon.

So far i have noticed that one motor has a bit more lash than the other so working on the best way to calm that down. Its very balanced (with me 180lbs) so maybe ill change that so its a bit heavier in the back. I guess its gonna be hard to find that sweet spot beings a 58 year old and a 6 year old will be using it

The controllers are IBT-2 43amp. The power supplies are 2 that i made for my ham radios I dont use anymore got them on ebay years ago. They are HP 7001044-Y000 Rev:M 72amp at 12v when using 110v ac. I floated the ground on the second one then ran them in series to get 24v. The code heck ill have to look up i think i got the file here it was a few weeks ago when i did that part. I was following along with DMax videos on youtube.

Sorry for poor video i dont have anyone to film me so it is what it is. I went thru a month of downtime due to burning up a IBt-2 controller. Since then i have added 30amp fuses on the motor line so far so good. Now for more tweaking Ive requested the free diy licence 2 months ago but so far havent heard anything maybe i did something wrong. Looking forward to getting it setup for assetto corsa then try to make some better videos. Sure has been alot of fun building it thanks for the forum theres loads of great info here.

Update i just received my free diy licence just wanted to say thanks guys now i can move on to more testing. More to come.....
