Hello, my name is Dave and Im a masochist.

But really. I am winding up a virtual pinball project and I thought to myself "Self, what should I do after
the vpin? Oh, I know. How about another complecated and portentially expensive project!"

I am reallllllly new to this world. I got my interest sparked by watching some youtube videos(DMAX notibly) and that lead me to the presipice of another deeeeeep rabbit hole. I think the thing that intrigues me most about the idea of building a motion sim (other than actually playing it) is all the fun things I know Ill learn along the way. I am looking forward to trying my hand at welding in particular.

It might be a bit before I can start a project in earnest , but I do intend on taking some time to look throuh the forums, faqs, projects, etc and try to get my bearings before I start buying/building/etc.

    What an awesome forum.
I'm an auto electrician from Australia and I like to build stuff.
I've been stalking the forums for a good while, researching, reading the FAQs, and I've finally decided it's time for me to build one on a budget, but not budget looking.
Plan is to build a 2dof with wiper motors to see if I can get it all to work first, I'll document the build once my arduino turns up. Frame will be made from offcuts of shs and rhs from work.
Looking forward to the build and hearing any suggestions and criticism anyone has

    Hello,

New member here. New to sim racing this year; using a Symdeck and Fanatec setup (v3 pedals, gt dd pro etc etc)

I'm natively a console gamer (hate all the troubleshooting of PC but here I am)

Does anyone know how to change your user/display name? I'd prefer not to use my actual name...

    Hey all!
I am really excited to join this community of creative folks!
I am from Nova Scotia, Canada and am completely new to all things electronic so this is going to be an adventure.
I started getting inspiration from one of the members of this forum @Halloween2go, who has a really helpful youtube channel on his trials and tribulations of building various platforms.
I have plans to build something similar to his and have picked up all the electronic components needed for the project plus the 3 motors. I will be doing 3 DOF (traction loss).
I think I might make my cockpit/platform in wood to start with and then rebuild it in steel after I pick up a flux core welder sometime in the next few months.
I look forward to the adventure and chatting! There has been so much helpful information here, so thanks for being awesome :)

    My Motion Simulator:
    2DOF, 3DOF
    Good morning gents,

I am new here and looking to build a 3DOF or 2DOF with traction loss. I am a design engineer by trade with access to laser cutting machines, press breaks, pem insert machines and welding as well as solidworks. I am working to finish the 3D model but still learning a lot through this forum and various websites.

Areas im still trying to understand:
1- what level of movement is ideal for roll pitch and yaw? currently have +- 7.5 degress of yaw possible in the design.
2- Trying to get coins so i can work out this sim tools app. I need to figure out ideal mounting points for use with crab pot motors and if a smaller motor can be used for the traction loss.
3- im a 350lb dude so will this sim work for me or should I look into bigger motors/shorter moment arm(less roll and pitch movement). where to focus increased structural design(where is the common failure points).
4- new to arduino, im sure there plenty of resources on this and ive been wanting a project to cut my teeth on in the arduino world. not currently worried about this as i want to get the physical rig design first.
5- what power supply will be needed? i surely cant run this off the same breaker as my desk top computer as i believe with the power my monitor and computer takes up i near full load on this breaker already. Do you guys run a cord to the adjacent room? At my lake house this will be near a breaker and ill likely add a dedicated breaker for the rig.

If i could get any help on these questions that would be awesome. ill likely copy and past to a non welcome forum for ideal exposure to the right crowd.

    Many Thanks,
    Kyle
