Rookie 3DOF Sim Build

    So inspired by Halloween2Go's YouTube serious from a late night rabbit hole I got inspired to build a rig. A total newbie to the world of Sim Racing but thanks to a couple of real-world track drives I got to do as a birthday present from my wife, I caught the bug.

    Thanks to some friends with more metal work experience than I had I've got the frame about ready to sit in and race. The design is intended to be able to be easily transportable especially in the initial phases as some of the metal work is not done in my shop.

    Curious to get any feedback.

    The seat is a seat I bought from Jegs. The (almost) square will be the version 0.1 mount for the steering wheel that is currently the main focus of construction. The pedals and the wheel mount slide along the 1 1/4" tubing. The rest is 1 1/2".

    It's been a while since I posted an update, but I feel like I'm making some good progress. I got the bolts for the heim joints and the UJoint welded into place (forgive my rookie welding). Had a slight panic when the UJoint seemed like it had seized in one direction but a couple of whacks with a 3 pound sledge and it freed up again. :eek:

    Now I'm 3D printing some shims from NinjaFlex and a temporary motor lever to make sure fitment is right before I try to get them machined. The lever is the blue plastic piece. Had to stop it for obvious reasons, but I think it will be strong enough for testing purposes.

    you have a wheel on the motor larger than on the potentiometer and the rotation dependence will not be linear, how will this affect the correct positioning of the drive?

    Yup, had that thought as well. The gears are left over from POC of the bracket. I'm planning to print a 1:1 gear for the potentiometer before actually putting it on the rig. Thanks for reminding me to get that printed :cheers

    So I'm looking through SimCalc Calculations before building the lower frame (and yes I'm sure I've gotten further than I should have before doing this) I'm concerned about the roll efficiency. Really the only way I can tell to improve it with SimCalc is to change the Motor Angle.

    How concerned should I be about the Roll efficiency? What is a "good" number?
