    Hi,
yes they are used to compensate for the weight of the simulator + me during rapid descent but also to give a less brutal movement of the whole

IMG_20231005_170913.jpg New little extra which is really nice that you can also find on the internet at prices much lower than those of brands such as FANTEC, THRUTSMASTER or others. And it's really fun

Do you think springs would also be useful for a flight simulator? I need the experience of people who have tried how it works. Thank you.

Springs or struts are sometimes hard to get right, as they need to compensate for load but not be too much of an opposing force.

On my compact rig I do use spring assist for heave, but it is easily adjustable at the turn of a knob for different users, as it is based on the tilt mechanism off a high-end DX office chair.

Quite honestly for a flight simulator my opinion will not be relevant I think, I advise you to ask the question to a person who uses a 3DOF for flying and not racing. Sorry
