I tested the Vive Pro 2 for 3 weeks, the image is very clear but the field of view is not much better than a Quest 3 which I tested for a while. Otherwise you can perhaps wait a little longer, Pimax has just announced two new headsets, the Crysal Super (29.5 Mpx) and the Crytal Light (16.6 Mpx), I wonder what graphics card it will take to run this , unless their eye tracking system is at the top.

yeah i followed the pimax news as well. very interesting ...for me the pimax crystal was total nonsense insead of Clarity and stuff ... all the standalone crap and first of all the mandatory battery was the absolute NOGO of this product for me ... heavy, to many nonsense thingies on it ...the light and the super is what they had to release back then .... but even the crystal light seems to expensive, ok controllers are included in the price ...but i dont need it ...will there be a kit without ? and the interchangeable display unit mmhhh is this really neccessary ?

maybe its an option later ... but for now if i get an 8kx for cheap i will try . i got the 5k+ (first black Version) for 150 Euros thats a great deal. but the screendoor is still visible.

the bigscreen beyond would be very nice because of the tiny formfactor but just to try it to expensive, and i dont know how the FOV is enough for me... reselling these would be hard because of fixed eye distances and the faceplate

i have a 4090 so i think iam on the safe side here :)

i really hope valve will do SOMETHING so i can decide ...

argh so many things to buy at the moment ..and everything is expensive .... i need a 49 inch curved OLED and a new Chair :D LOOOL

Valve famously runs on 'Valve Time', so wonderful when a Valve product aligns with current consumer needs, but pragmatically not something consumers can bet on until formal Valve announcements.

    thats true.
    but i still hope :)

back in the days valve releases a great product with the Index, which is still today the best package for VR in my opinion !!! EXCEPT !!!! the resolution of the dispays. which is a bit outdated for todays standards - but still playable and usable !!!!

and they developed all the new stuff within steam VR Software points to a new Product with a high potential.

i hope for a product like the fake valve Prism Homepage but without the stand alone crap .... nobody needs this ... and the stand VR alone market is not there on steam i think ...

maybe all the leaks and fake news and upcoming competing products will put some pressure on valve :)

We all live in hope, but that is not a basis for consumer decisions in an information vacuum :popcorn

And there can be unanticipated consumer surprises, I don't own a Valve HMD simply because it was deliberately not made available in Australia at launch, and I flat our refuse to support a third party reseller only appointed years after the initial launch.

youre right, but iam not under pressure to buy or "need" a new HMD now ... so i can lean back and watch what will happen :D

to get a "cheap" 8kx in the meanwhile is more or less for fun and not because i need it.

Indeed I agree, I think the Crystal hybrid aspect also makes no sense in my eyes, they wanted to try it but I think it is not a good idea.
If you have a 4090 you are quite comfortable with the power of your machine :D
I agree everything is expensive, simulation is a new passion for me, I don't want to invest too much for fear that it will go away over time (even if it would surprise me :grin)

I know what you mean. I got the 4090 not only for sim racing. I Just play many Different types of games. So thats OK for racing a 3080 is enough in most cases i would say... I build my 6dof as cheap as possible with a preowned base from here and some other stuff. Maybe you noticed my building threat as well

The 3080 Ti works well in VR although on AMS2 it is very limited. But for the moment its well for me. I only have a 2 DOF Pro Simu (SNC5) bought second-hand and I really like the result, but it's certain that if I could add the traction loss it would be excellent. You built a 6 DOF it must be excellent, did you create a post on the forum so that you can look at your construction? I'm curious :grin

    13900k/4090/Pimax Crystal for me

Havnt had any problems with my crystal, and once i got the comfort worked out, that's been fine too. I primarily use it for MSFS and DCS.

The bigscreen beyond is pretty damn great and small enough to not interfere with a g helmet.

Running 8kx best to run in native mode and 90hz, i love the fov, every now and then drop to potatoe mode so i can see what i am getting that others don't !lol
its i very prone to loss of usb after a shut down and a next time it wont see the Base stations.
easy to fix but a pain.
I run a 7800x3d with a 4090 plus 64gb ram all high end stuff with water cooling and i cannot drive the 8kx fully your still backing things off, i run the full large fov.
I don't think i can go back on fov i am happy with the normal which is about 150 ish but i try to use Large as priority.
I have only recently got back running due to some building work to house my rig.
I can run iracing with good settings in 110hz mode large fov but it loses clarity.
my only gripe is the base station issue when you switch on sometimes, to get it back you have to unplug all usb and shut down, then restart, plug pimax back in, then shut down restart and check it see the base stations once it does then you can plug everything else back in.
Dirt rally 2.0 with large fov is soooo fast trees whizing past.
i just hope the 12k comes to replace this and keep fov.
in the mean time there is the pimax light, and if your after a 8kx they come up a lot now, was one on iracing sales @ 300 i think.

iam hoping that an index 2 will come out ... otherwise i check ebay over and over again for a used 8kx for "cheap" normally the prices should fall because of the crystal light ....

i think wide FOV for racing games are not sooo necessary, because .... in real live you wear a helmet ..this minimize the real FOV also. so no problem with a smaller HMD view. :D

Tbh, id say its more real with the pimax 8kx to a helmet and fov of a helmet set to normal fov of 150 id say is spot on anything less is just binoculars, but that's just me i guess. some sims will let you add the helmet overlay.
any are good though, i didn't really take note last time i put a helmet on, that was only 2 weeks ago as well.
you have made me go find my helmet now and check ! lol
i just wish they would sort the usb issues out, pimax can be the best when you have no issues.

:D let us know hows the difference between a real helmet and the FOV of the HMD :D it would be very interesting.

I have a Varjo Aero and I'm about to start on a 3DOF rig.
Is it correct that if I attach a Base Station, which moves along with rig, then I won't require any motion compensation software to run?
    cheers

A base station is a precision tracking instrument and can't be subjected to the violence of a motion rig, hence either limit motion so that motion compensation is not required, or use motion compensation.

As mentioned before. Base Station will fail or break if you put them on the rig. Exeption would be the very first oculus base stations. Here you can place one fixed to the rig.
In my opinion you cant ignore motion cancellation in vr with a rig. Your head will move out of place while the rig moves. Motion cancellation is not that difficult. You Just need a Controller or a vive tracker attached to the rig. Install a small Software Programm and thats it. Another possibility to achieve that use a pimax hmd without base stations with the internal 9axis setting. It will work too but you are unable to Stick your head out of the racing car in game
