Motors cutting out

    Hello you beautiful bunch
    Hope everyone is well and looking forward to the festivities

    I wonder if someone could suggest a fix
    I've managed to get my 2dof wheelchair motor rig to work with lfs and simtools
    But the motors shut down sometimes 2 laps in sometimes on the 1st corner

    Now the the ibt-2s are cool and the motors are cool aswell .
    If I unplug and plug the arduino USB the motors come to life and return to start position
    Simtools also shuts down so I have to restart that aswell

    I've read loads of FAQ and think maybe it's regen or something to to with amps
    I've read about running 2 ibt-2s for each motor also there's placing a diode or capacitor across the psu or the motor terminals

    So I have 2 x 200w motors from motion dynamics with 50:1 boxes also 1 ibt2 per motor running off of a single 500w led psu
    I run the motors with tie rods to shoulder hight
    Ctc levers 40mm or 65mm or 90mm
    Also I will say I defo need to balance my top frame as its front heavy I will be adjusting this ASAP

    1 more thing there seems to be a delay in response when it comes to the game
    Gear changes are fine but rumbles and bumps seen to lag

    Limited information but it sounds like the Arduino crashes rather than some sort of motor issue. Doesn’t seem likely that both motors would go.

    Recently I added a flashing led into the main Arduino loop. This is pretty easy to do using an internal led and tells you immediately if the Arduino has checked out.

    This could be due to PSU issues with the Arduino. Is the Arduino powered just from the USB or do you have a power supply going to the barrel connector on the Arduino?

    Its only powerf by usb
    It only seems to happen when there's a series of bigger movements
    There isn't a disconnect sound until I unplug the arduino to reset it
    The motors stop in what ever position they are in when it happens the return to the level start position when I pull out then plug back in the USB the led on the arduino are still on when it cuts out
    The ibt-2s and motors are cool to the touch
    I'm going to try again but try unplugging and plugging back in the plug i have on the pins on the ibt-2s

    My arduino is plugged into the front usbc and my peripherals into the front usb3 port illl try plugging the arduino into the back usbc port and the peripherals to the front usb2 slot

    You likely need to map what controller those USB port maps to, as often USB controllers are shared.

    All you need to do is chop off the wire on almost any wall wart power supply and run power from the 12v motor PSU into the Arduino. If you have a 24v system you need a regulator.

    No 12v
    I find smc3 works fine with motion and sine shame there no way of running both motors for testing
    It seems to be different things that happens sometimes it's 1 motor fails sometimes both sometimes I need to unplug and plug in arduino sometimes I need to restart simtools
    Another thing I've noticed is when level on the track after a turn the rig is leaning to 1 side dosent level out but as soon as I quit out the game the rig levels out
    Alot of that is probably me not setting the parameters up properly

    Theres a couple structural things I need to adjust 1 is the way I've got the top tie rod ends connecting to the rig ill post pics easy fix but I also have to move my uni joint forward as the centre of balance is not right

    So do most projects use the power connector ? Or is it something to try incase there's a power problem over USB
    The USB cable that came with the Arduino was real short so I grabbed a 3 metre USBc it was the only 1 I could find with the square plug on the end

    I used to had a very similar problem where I was able to run just one motor , when I was trying to run the second motor both ibt-2 blowing,but I was running 24v. I fixed my problem using this motor controllers.

    Mine cost me £2.90 and they're not blowing they seem fine not over heating sometimes 1 motor sometimes both but the ibt-2s seem ok I think its happening in the arduino sim tools shuts down aswell

    The Arduino is on a separate controller which is good.

    Can you please post pictures of all of your settings.

    My uneducated guess would be that it is a regeneration problem. I had a similar issue when making an active brake pedal and solved it by placing a capacitor and large (over 20W) resistor in parallel with the capacitor between the power supply and motor. The idea is that the forwards voltage can go through the capacitor and it can help smooth out the voltage to the motor and when the motor brakes or reverses, you can get a large surge of voltage flowing back to the power supply. This was causing my one to switch into protection mode and turn off briefly. With the capcitor and resistor, the voltage instead can't flow back through the polarised capacitor and instead goes through the resistor, shedding the excess energy as heat thus protecting the power supply against the back voltage surge.

    I'm not sure if that is a 100% accurate explanation as I'm a DIYer rather than actually knowing what I'm doing.

    It's fairly inexpensive to try out this possible solution to see if it makes a difference.

    Just trying out dr adhd suggestion dropping frequency from 35 to 20 so far so good
    Now I'm trying to figure out why at rest rigs level but on track slightly leaning right on a level track as soon as I end lfs rig levels out again

    Yes 10 laps ibt-2s warm but not hot motors cool running fine
    For me it was dr adhd ( not sure of his username on xsimulator.net ) that said the max fequency rating of ibt-2 is 25khz I was flipping between 35 and 30
    Absolutely made up
    Now I can get on with balancing and moving my track end rods to a better position

    I'm also trying to figure out settings in simtools and lfs as things like going around corners there's no movement from side to side it all or nothing

    Like for instance when I go over the rumble strip my wheel rumbles but the rig just jumps once 1 way then once the opposite tried using smoothing didn't do anything
    In smc3 the rig can track sine smoothly and motion to quite fine resolution

    I'll post my settings here soon or my solution if I find it

    Sussed out the problem it was the frequency apparently ibt2 are rated 25khz max I was running 35 dropped to 20 and they haven't cut out once in all testing
    Now just need to play about with tuning as motion is not matching the game well
    Will post my results and settings later
