Hi all. I have just come across your amazing site and hope you can help me. About 8 years ago I developed a compact pneumatic motion platform which is a skeleton cockpit for use with IL-2 flight sim. Although I see that pneumatics are not much favoured by your contributors, I find it gives me a really nice enhanced flying experience. It has roll, pitch, sway and about 20cm heave. May not sound much, but it feels pretty good to all who have flown in it.

I am delighted to see both IL-2 Cliffs of Dover and DCS World both now have plugins available and I would like to move on to these sims. Will it be possible to use the plugins to operate the standard servo motors which control my air valves? Be kind to me, as I am afraid I have no software skills but I know a man who does.

    Welcome Hugso!
Great! you have achieved a pneumatic sim: congratulations! you just won to post some pictures and video ;-)

Probably! Just tell us how do you electrically control your air valves: what kind of signal?
For example, my wiper motors are driven by 5V PWM signal.

    yours,
    Mat

    Hi all,
My name Brian. I would describe myself as a bit of a craftsman who wants to develop his electronic skills. I decided to explore the world of flight simulation after a trial flight in a Piper Tomahawk. I am keen to have a go at building some sort of flight simulator though what form it will take I don't yet know. I'm here to learn.

Brian, you're welcome! Sometimes having the "go" is the most difficult of the whole project ;-)

With a Simulator project, your craft skills will be useful and you will develop your electronics skills for sure! and it's much safer!

This is the best site found on the internet for DIY motion platforms software. The link was obtained through DCS forum that is also very helpful. I hope as the flight simulators progress with all the help topics I can share useful information. To all success with projects.

Welcome to XSimulator.net MagicEdge! Good to see more flight sim enthusiasts joining in. Could you post a link to the thread that brought you here?

I look forward to seeing what you come up with for your platform.

Welcome Brain, yes you have come to the right place, I would recommend a Joyrider configuration for a flight deck from my previous build experience this give some of the best results. http://www.acesim.com/main.html, this is a basic 2dof unit built in pvc and can be built in other ways , for example Value1 did a top job in building one from steel and using off the shelf drivers that are USB compatablile, so very electronic knowledge is needed to setup and use. Plus the software is very easy and powerful to use too.
Start a build topic mate, so we may add suggestions and guide you along your adventure.

MM a sim with power to spare. Ok i drive RC servos with a small arduino code here as a model display, if this is simular concept you are using to drive the servos then yes, easy, Can you start a topic and list out the appliance you are trying to drive from there we can advise you what can be done to drive this, may be a simply relay card, not sure more info and I sure the guys here can make a very good suggestion.
Yes some pictures would be cool.

Hello Cristian, the K8055 is not supported under the new software we are beta testing here, you will need to be on another site for that information.
I would recommend looking at the new Motion driver from Dimension Engineering, this I know I can drive through the new software here.

    Take a look my friend.

Yo recomendaría mirar el nuevo controlador de movimiento de Ingeniería Dimension, esto sé que puedo manejar a través del nuevo programa podrás.

Hello, I am on my way hopefully to a diy motion-simulator, I hope i will be able to accomplish that with the help of some experienced members. My project is to build a 3DoF simulator as well as a flight motion simulator
    Thanks

Thanks for the positive response. My air valves are physically actuated by the movement of the servo motors. I have fixed two cheap air shut-off valves back to back so that motion one way pushes the rams up and the the other way opens to exhaust. The servos move with the rams so that they go to the required position and stop. I use an oil-filled piston to wash out back to centre. I just need the signal to drive the servo motors from the sim. The most important servo is the heave, driven by g level information. For roll motion I tried using roll information from in game, but it was too slow to feel right so I use aileron position now. Pitch and sway are fine. I can post some schematics and photo if anyone is interested. Please can I have instructions on how to post images?

Welcome Carlos, mmm a rocket sim , groovy.
Yes your in the right place mate, start a build post , even if its just noting the idea you have and we all are happy to guide you along the build. The flight stuff is growing here, moist of us are racers but I actually use my race sim in flight games too.

    Hi everyone,

I am completely new to the simulator scene. I was introduced to it all by bsft and I have to say I am absolutely fascinated by the amount of interest these homemade simulators are generating, type in racing simulator or even "2dof" in youtube and you know what I mean.

I have very little knowledge of simulators but with the guidance of bsft I am quickly learning.

As we speak, bsft is building a custom made simulator for me, we are starting on 2dof as it's a good starting point to get the ball rolling, not to mention it's affordable. The anticipation of receiving this beast when it's complete is overwhelming to say the least.

I envisage that not too far in the distant future, our simulators will be played on life like racing simulation games, not 3d, that would ultimately be the final frontier for our simulator community. Until then, let's enjoy what we have. Things can only get better.
