Hello, Ben here -- new to motion simulation -- I'm in the process of building a 737 flight deck; impressed with whats in the market, but as usually priced out of range so hoping to learn from the experts on this board and build a motion platform myself!

    Hello all,

Time for an introduction although I'm not really new here... Have an account since januari 2013, if I remember correctly, have been lurking and learning for a while ;)

Working with open-source software on a daily basis the open community on this forum speaks to me. As such I think it's about time to share a few things I'm working on with my brother.

We are currently in the process of prototyping a few "out of the box" ideas. Which are:
    1. a 3DOF motion sim (with pitch, roll and 360º yaw), inspired by the sliding 2DOF by tahustvedt
    2. a linear actuator design I've never seen before
I'll open a project thread to share our progress.

    Hi Dan,

at first welcome here and second, nice to see you start being active with a project.
(When i noticed your registration here, i had been curious and already visited some of your websites, to see what other website developer creates;))

Thats the common path and thought we all are following here and thats the reason why this community is currently growing enormous. Sharing knowledge and giving support for "only" appreciation and improving open source technology affordable for everyone!

I am really excited in in your ideas of a new linear actuator system:thumbs

Ha! you did your research, always nice to meet fellow web developers.

About sharing, in The Netherlands we have a little word joke "delen is vermenigvuldigen" which translates to something like "to share is to multiply". I love how this works in open source communities. Building on and combining each others knowledge so we all can progress much faster.

Hi everyone I'm looking to build a 2dof racing sim based on racing mat's project, I have ordered the arduino/moto monster boards, 2 pots and power supply. I'm a mold maker by trade so I have access to lots of steel and cnc machines which I do most of my work on. I'm sure I'll need lots of help along the way as I'm not familiar with the electronic side of things.

welcome and ask away, also there are other builds here you can work off it they take your fancy. If you are not familiar with electronics, I recommend the Pololu JRK, 7 wires, one USB, no code to write, all in one board, one per motor, and they handle 14v at 30amps continuous with heatsink and fan cooling all day. With peaks of 40 amps.

Thanks Bsft, I can see from reading through this forum that your a big help to everyone. As I am already committed to the arduino set-up I'll explore that route first but I have a feeling that I may eventually upgrade to the motors you use, so if the arduino/moto monster can't handle the power I'll get the jrk's.

I use the Arduino also; works well with the Pololu 18v18 motor drivers to push 12v winch motors. RacingMat's sketch is pretty simple and easy to set up.

I did purchase two JRKs but never got around to using them, if you are interested in a discount ;)

I too have access to a CNC setup (my own DIY rig), I am curious what you come up with.
