Okay! You got a point there so I should be more specific :grin. I trust your opinion when it comes to evaluating whether the motion is satisfactory or its sh.t! :thumbs

Hopefully RacingMat can get you going because, as I stated before, I don't do arduino. I wrote custom motor control software that works with my specific simulator setup and Dimension Engineering's motor controllers. It will not work with any other setup, at least atm.

btw While I'm somewhat skeptical about the d-box part, the rest of your setup looks terrific! I need pedals like yours for sure !

any motion and any sim is good, no matter the good or bad the motion, if the owner likes it, its great.

Yep for example, I tend to get a bit of vertigo dizziness with a seat mover that has more throw that shakes me up around. That, and it's easy to setup. Still i do wish to set up a second rig that's an f1 seating position with some kind of motion.

However I'm not sure if the nausea and dizziness might come if it's one of those CKAS type systems that moves everything on the rig.

One of the key things to a seat only mover is to setup a head gyro cockpit effect. In iracing I have that set to offset the fact that i have stationary monitors. I've yet to try oculus rift with motion. sold it before d-box came.

Vertigo dizziness? This will be an interesting visit to your place and play on your machine. I have a seat mover, and it was fierce until I got settings for motors right , thanks Rob. I dunno about vertigo dizzyness on mine. Maybe because I have been through 11 designs from joyrider, full frame and seat mover, I may be used to it.
I will chat more regarding to a 2nd f1 rig, achievable with big DC motors. You may need to rock over to my place to try my 2 rigs.
Ckas , from what I have heard is TOO much throwing motion and can be fun, but ruin the game play. Rob can advise further on ckas sims, hes had experience with them.
seat mover and head gyro effect, thats new to me. Can you elaborate?
And do you have a video of your toy in action?

Yeah the vertigo was caused by an ear infection i had recently. This was the only videos i could find when friends came over to try it out. And yeah, will take up that offer to come try your rigs for sure. :)

As for the head gyro effect in iracing. It's a plugin called motion cockpit view, which gives subtle car movements in relation to the head camera. That way you don't have a stationary car in front of you. These movements also tells your brain what the car is doing, and because motion sims move based on what the car is doing, it makes sense to see that in sync with the motion. Hence giving an illusion that the monitors aren't stationary somewhat. Hope that was clear. wasn't sure how to explain it properly.

“Good” is a relative term. "If the owner likes it, its great" is true. But the owner might not know what “good” really is if they haven’t had to opportunity to experience anything “better”. I think my setup is "good” but I haven’t had the opportunity to try something similar like a Force Dynamics 301 or 401. And I haven’t tried just a chair mover only yet (but starting a build now). So “good” for me is the best that I have experienced to date.

So what I was hoping for was an honest opinion from someone that has experienced enough different motion setups that they have some idea of what “good” is. But if you’re going to P… out on me (us) with you opinion then maybe I shouldn’t trust you :(. Just joking like you my friend! :cheers

If someone is getting vertigo, probably they are either just sensitive to motion for one reason or another, or the motion is likely not accurate enough to “trick” their brain completely. I would not consider that “good” at all even though the person who built it might think it’s “the bomb”!

As others have stated, a platform mover where the center of gravity is at the platform level, does not give the most accurate motion. The center of gravity needs to be up around chest level to get the best motion cues!

Use of that plugin looks like the next best thing to using a head tracking system. I use a trackir5 so I get the same results, but only when I want to look right or left of the apex. You might want to give it a try since it works with almost every game title. (On second thought, my monitor moves with my rig and the trackir unit is attached to the monitor and it moves with me so it may not work well with your setup.)

I’m sure that the d-box system will give great fast action feedback, i.e. rumble strips, curbs, road bumps, hitting a wall, etc. But for me, “good” is having that feedback plus the slower, longer duration feedback as well. It difficult to design a system that is the best of all worlds I admit. But it is possible to get a good mix! If a seat mover motor can move 35kg at a 150mm stroke for example, if it were reduced to a d-box stroke of 35mm, you could move 150kg with it (in theory). That’s right in there with the d-box actuators. So I think somewhere in between would make a good “mix”. I know members here can build a system superior to d-box and at a fraction of the cost if they have the will!

@BlazinH , (getting used to that), I appreciate an honest opinion from someone with experience and there would be other members here whom have had the opportunity to try more commercial setups. Where I am in Australia in Sydney, there is only one place in town with 4 Dbox actuator VRX units, 3 screens at $40,000 each. I know the motion would have probably been set for non motion sim users. So I though it was crap. In fact, I have had several people I know try the VRX units in town at $80 per hour, and then sit on my "all in one" and were blown away that a sim 1/10 the cost could out perform in motion. Yes profile is the key and yes even the user may not know how good it can move.
In WA , Rob tells me there is a place with CKAS units going, and he finds the motion laggy (his opinion) and hes has had several people sit on his sim at less than 1/10 the cost and again, it out performs in motion.
There would be others here that can advise better than me.
I am going to check out Ministrinity sim on Thursday and NOT to give an opinion, but to try out a much better looking sim than mine and more nerd features, and meet up with a fellow sim user. If the opportunity out there is available to have a run on other peoples units, lets take it. I intend to check it out and enjoy the experience, not to judge or question.
Heck, even @Rastus wiper seat/JRK mover with 3 screens moves great for what it is. Awesome looking unit it is for a home build by a 85 years young fella.
Dbox actuators are good, but at $6000 a pair, its WAAAAYYY out of my price range.
I only have my converted brick actuators which I got for free, and they are harsh and fast with 120mm travel at about 230mm per second load at 40 kg, each. And thats at 1/3 power in JRKS. But they are currently packed away as people would come over and play on the sim and ask if they can get more. At $2500 each less motors, no.
Hence me staying with big worm gear dc motors currently.
There are options out there to ratttle your brains, depends on what you can afford.
The big DC motors and JRKS are cheap and very effective as people have found out, but again, as said, once the profile is sorted.
    Trust others, not just me.
The vids posted look to be a good unit.

Yep. In the end our choices comes from our preferences, budget, time and abilities. In my case the cost for my setup was a deal. And minimal fuss. I actually enjoy any kinda motion. All in the name of fun. :) heck, I even enjoyed myself back then when I started out just with a single buttkicker on my office chair.

Here's a rig before motion. When i was back in London. I was still using an iMac back then.

Fantastic setup, I actually sold Mauro those Dbox actuators, he still has the other two. I'm going to PM you about the ECCI 7000 and the GS4.

For you folks that have a propensity to get sea sick/motion sickness/car sickness - BEFORE you do these things, take a couple ginger tablets and in most cases, it WON'T happen. Safe and cheap at drugstores to big box outlet stores. Believe me, it works.

I was unable to visit Ministrinity at that time. Hopefully late January I can get a day off from work to do so.

Great tip @cthiggin. I've already gotten used to this. I might buy some just in case when friends come over and experience motion sickness.

@MAYAman any ideas where I can get another two more actuators to make it a 4 actuator system? If you ever come across in any of those deals again. Do let me know first thing. I'd be interested. :)

interesting , I have had lots of people on my toys and none of them suffered motion sickness. Just jarred muscles from sheer "F...K ME!" motion.

@bsft I should really make a trip to come try out your simulators if that's okay. Yeah my friends who complain motion sickness are usually girls who've never driven a car before. Somehow the motion sim do not impress girls. My missus included. She shrugs at me whenever I told her how fun it was. :)

Sure, just give us a ring first. Kids being on school holidays makes it busy, so at least a days notice would be good. @Ministrinity
