    Hey guys,
I found a used Logitech driving force GT for pretty good price. Is this a decent alternative to the G27?

    Thanks!

The g27 is a much nicer wheel IMHO.
I personally still like the g25 best.

Thanks buddy! I guess I should have asked if it was a decent starter wheel. I would love to have the g27 - the clutch would be awesome I think! I'm just trying to save some cash for the time being. I guess I could always sell the DFGT on eBay when I'm ready to upgrade.

ive had a driving force gt for 3 years, and now have a g27. Obviously the g27 is a better wheel and pedals, but for a beginner, the GT is a great wheel, 900 deg lock to lock, pedals are ordinary, but a great wheel none the less.

For a first starting experience the GT wheel is ok. Its cheaper and you can see first if this hobby is worth to invest more time and money later. But when you already like playing sims and you are feeling excited about driving a virtual car than you should consider to buy at least the G25 wheel. You sometimes find it cheap at ebay. Its much more powerful and from higher quality than the GT and its good as the G27.

Im a G25 fan its a shame they were replaced with the g27, which I personally dont like the feel on the FFB seems to be very mechanical in feel , not a flowing smooth effect of the G25, which i have been racing with for over 8 years now. Still going strong, My son uses the GT and for what its worth it provides a very nice feel, cant beat the G25/27 but comparable its of good quality and impressed me for its overall cost.
A good option to get started with and if you want to take the next step, then buy the g27 later on.

Thanks guys, I pulled the trigger on the DFGT. I figure I'll eventually get the g27 but for $75 i figured i would try it out.

Very good score, thought you were building a Joyrider, or have the plans changed. Mine do all the time.

I am having a lot of trouble deciding! LOL. I was originally wanting to build a flight sim, but now after seeing all these great videos of racing, I want to be able to do both! So, I'm a bit torn at the moment. Joyrider seems better for flight, other designs better for racing. I keep going back and forth :) what's the best compromise?

Ok yes the joyrider is one of the best setups for flight motion, from what I have personally experienced, I do have one too, but motors and controllers got robbed (by me) to quickly build another race sim after it walked out the door with a new owner.
If you want to compromise you can make a full 2dof frame as in the wheel and pedals all move with the base, this in front of a big static screen , like a projector, gives you a good feeling for flight, aswell as race, but depending on the motors and and power(amps) avail will depend on how quick of motion you may achieve, as running a full frame makes them work alot harder and you tend to miss alot of the finer vibration movements that are key in a sim.

Or type 2. you build a seat mover with a detachable front half that hold the wheel and pedals, being a seat mover you can setup the profile quite harsh and have all the thrilling vibrations from the car and track, then when you want to take it for a fly, detach the wheel and pedals and have another attachment that goes onto the seat itself to support your feet (rudder) and flight stick and will all move with the seat.
Then with a softer profile setup this would suit flight, if you used Jrks you could even have different setting that you can simply load, so that you could have a greater range of movement for flight.

Only issue with type 2 is that the pivot point is different for both rigs built individually, so as a compromise you can set the pivot to suit the flight setup as being a little back heavy as a seatmover will not hurt the speed of the DC motors.

Hope that helps to clear the muddy water mate. You can have both, just need to think out of the box.

Thanks eaorobbie, that does help. I was thinking of building a full frame like you said, as I definitely want the pedals and yoke to move with the seat for flight. Too bad I don't have room to build one of each! :) I will see what I can come up with and build another model to test it.

:) Joyrider is best for roller coaster! And you won't even need a steering wheel :D

It's funny you mention that! I was just looking through the list of plugins to see what racing game I should try and noticed the nolimits roller coaster. My kids would love that!

I've got NLS vers 1.8 great game, but watch it if you buy the latest vers 2. I bought vers 2 last January and still haven't been able to get a plugin, so although the graphics are great, no motion. They keep changing the vers and it's hard to keep up redoing the plugin. My vers. is 2002 64 bit, so beware!!

We're not supporting the x64 version yet. However the x86 (32bit) versions of V2.0.1.2 and V2.0.1.7 both work. Either you update to the later version or you PM me and we work out the plugin for V2.0.0.2x86
BTW: Install NLS on a 32bit machine, copy the folder 32bit to your 64bit PC into the NLS folder (besides the 64bit folder) and start the game from this 32bit folder.
