I was just wondering how this setup can be stabilized in a none operating condition?

When I build the ball screw system it will have rod ends with spherical bearings on each end. Whats stopping the rig from going like a wet noodle and going limp when not moving around. Is there a way of supporting it other than putting a spring support underneath?

What design did you have in mind again? 3 DOF with centre support was it?
Ball screw should hold itself a bit when the power is off.
My actuators do, but if I lean on them with power off they move.
A spring underneath is a tricky one, as the motors - actuators will have to work against it so you may loose motion feeling.

    Hi bsft,

It's 3dof with one ballscrew in the front and two at rear. You're right about the center support I should not use it as it will complicate things.

What I think I'm going to do is have some sort of parking mechanism. Maybe at the top of the ballscrew add a locating ring which would be a larger diameter that locates itself into a receiving cup when it's in the down position thus stabilizing the rig. If I had a little time I draw up a quick sketch but I'm off to work.

    Ste

Unfortunately I haven't done anything towards this project. I purchased a house and have been working on stuff around the house.

Before I started to work on the simulator I had to get the garage organized. I ran electrical in the garage for power outlets and additional lighting and need to re-patch up the walls. Then I was going to build a work bench. That's when I was going to get started on the simulator project. Other stuff keeps jumping in the way lol.

Just on the back burner for now. :)
