Hi guys, im new on here and im just about to start my 1st build of a 2DOF motion sim. Just a quick question, are there any specific wiper motors that are best for the job?

    Hello Nath!

You have first to determine what kind of simulator you intent to build: flight sim or race sim? or more tricky both!

2DOF: so we dont speak about traction loss, heave effects.

The actuator choice comes after this ;-)

As Mat has said, do you have a design in mind, that will affect the choice of motor.
Wipers, generally a large passenger car will do, but earth isolate the wipers
    testing motor.jpg

Or use these bigger motors, which are faster and stronger http://www.motiondynamics.com.au/worm-drive-motor-12v-24v-200w-180-rpm-20nm-torque.html , already earth isolated, or source a similar motor via ebay, maybe this one http://www.ebay.ca/itm/GEAR-MOTOR-1...ILLCRAB-POT-PULLFEED-150160-rpm-/370915744975
And the Pololu JRK is the easiest to set up, granted they cost a bit more though than Ard and hbridge.

Hi guys, im looking at a racing sim. Mainly for playing rFactor. After looking at the prices of the SCN5 Actuators, I quickly decided that the wiper motor route would be the way to go. I have seen a few guides and videos on youtube and they look very good for a fraction of the cost.

Looking at the DIY guide I was looking through, they used a Monster Moto & an Arduino Uno. Along with a pair of potentiometers , a power supply and a pair of wiper motors.

I am using two Monster Moto driver boards and two Arduinos to run my 2DoF platform (with traction loss) on winch motors. They work very well indeed. For power supplies I use cheap HP 7000GB (the 6000GB might be better as it has internal fans for cooling) server power supplies. One for every two winch motors.

To run my Arduinos I am using Prilads and Rufus Dufus' codes.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for wiring the Monster Moto & Arduino ? I have ordered 1 of each, do many people use 2 of each ?

    Hi Nath,

That depends on which Arduino code that you are using.

Will you be using Prilad's, RufusDufus' or RacingMats?

I can point you to the correct one depending on which code you decide on.

I have used all three, all work well. I am currently using both Prilad's and Rufus Dufus' because they have nifty utility programs that work with the arduino.

The manner of construction does not depend on the arduino code that you use, any of the three that I mentioned will work. I have used RacingMats in the past and it works very well. I chose to try the other two on my current project because they have several attractive features such as setup utilities that make adjustment of your motors very easy. If I had to recommend one of the three I would have to go with Rufus Dufus' simply because it allows for control of three motors (as does RacingMat's) but also has a setup utility program that is very handy for adjustment.

Have a dig through the threads and ask questions, there are a lot of good builds out there.

Thanks, I think The rig itself should be simple enough, especially with all these project plans to follow. The electronic side is the part im worried about mostly. Looking at what iv seen and been able to find, the Arduino Uno R3 along with a Monster Moto Shield and as for a Arduino code, im thinking the code that Historiker mentioned by Rufus Dufus

If I went with the Monster Moto Shield, Im now looking at a pair of new Worm Drive Motors, does anyone have any Motors in mind from the UK. I dont mind spending a bit on the right motors. as I see the motors being the most important part.

look up motion dynamics in the UK, they have their own 12v 200 watt big worm gear motors.
The ard and hbridge setup is not that complicated, but if you are concerned, look into the JRK then, Yes it cost more, but a bit simpler and easier to set up.
    Choice is yours of course.

http://www.motioncontrolproducts.co.uk/ do not currently have the correct motor / gearbox combination in stock. They sell a similar motor and gearbox but they do not go together! I've been searching for similar motors in the UK witk no luck as of yet.
