Can anyone tell me the difference between x-simulator and simtools please? Havent used Sim Tools yet but have been on x-simulator for some time now. Not active in posting as children have taken my free time thats not used to race.

Is Sim Tools better and why>?
I play iRacing, is this a better option why?
Is this easier to create profiles or similar?

simtools is free and works offline. You dont have to "donate" for an offline key.
simtools runs faster than x-sim . plugins in simtools run at 20ms, x-sim 40ms.
simtools uses raw data for plugins, what the car / plane in game is actually doing. better refined motion
x-sim , simx use an algorithm, which is what they think the car/plane should be doing. crap motion. I used to use x-sim, simtools is much better.
As far as I know simtools has more proper working plugins than x-sim. Dirt3 comes to mind as the "other" software never got it running properly.
It takes a bit of getting the hang on, but what new programs/games dont have a learning curve.
Give it a run for sure, its excellent on JRKS.
Yes I know what its like with young kids taking up time.

I know SimTools is significantly easier to get up and running with, in my opinion. I tried for a few years with X-Sim (2 and 3) but failed to get a sim moving with the software, it just didn't seem user friendly. Both communities, also in my opinion, are filled with great people though.

    Hello,
for qualitative reasons, I prefer Simtools: easier, silent running, no bugs :thumbs

for quantitative comparison, here some information:
    PC resources consumption:
    RAM
Xsim Extractor 65 Mo Ram + Xsim converter 18 Mo = 82Mo for Xsim
versus GameManager 18 Mo RAM + GameEngine 14 Mo = 32Mo for Simtools and 0% processor

    disk:
4 Mo install file for Simtools
54 Mo install file for Xsim 3

    Games supported:
    ~55 for Simtools
    ~40 for Xsim

Simtools and Xsim use the same folowing connexions:
    - USB serial
    - Net (LAN ethernet)
    - SCN5 et 6
    - Arduino and JRK
    - I don't remember about kangaroo support?...
    - no Vellerman support for Simtools but these cards are obsolete

    Functionnalities:
X-Sim 3 fonctionnalities that Simtools doesn't have at the moment.
    - ODB II interface for diagnostic software and android or iPhone dashboard programs
    - buttkicker support (which is under construction for Simtools)

    - For SCN5 and 6,
french forumers use Logykal: free, dedicated to SCN and extremely simple logykal.net

Backup your xsim stuff and load on SimTools for a test. Worth the trouble to just give it a test mate.
Then you will see the difference.
Your welcome to contact me personally and in a Hr if you know ya sim well, we can have it profiled and running in Iracing.
Then you can make a decision, even revert back. Worth a go, plus its internet free. Yepeee.

That reminds me of some tv commercials pepsi vs. coca cola:D
With the small but important difference that your comparison has been done very objective . Well done

I am just getting my feet wet in this business so what I am doing is to try to know a little bit about all the tools out there and try them out. I did try x-sim but felt like it was very complicated and most likely too advanced for my needs. Then a friend pointed out SimTools and now I have downloaded that to try it out. Too bad I can't dive in because I need coins to be able to download the rFactor2 plugin :)

However - my first impression is that SimTools feels much nicer. I like how much simpler the user interface is and I also think this community is more active.

    Best,
    Sammi

you can either actually buy a download package with real money , or start a thread with full details of your build and also make practical comments on other posts. Do you have a simulator and or model built?
    Regards, David.

    Hi,

yes of course I should simply support your site and buy a download package. It is not that expensive.

No nothing is built yet. Me and my friend are doing some research and trying to figure out where to start. For now we are experimenting with an Arduino and the Ultimarc iPac Ultimate IO controller. Maybe not the obvious point to start but we would like to know how easy it is to interface with the software so that we can plan our dashboards. I have extensive experience with the Arduino platform because we use it a lot where I work. I do therefor assume that we will not be having any problems at all. We are so exited to see blinking lights and stuff!
