Welcome @SilentChill , ask away, beware you have chosen the hardest sim to replicate and setup, not recommended for a beginner.
But we do have a few being built so go for it, Im sure they will answer any question you have and gladly guide you along your journey.

Thanks for the warm welcome eaorobbie. It is because of the vast contribution from the likes of yourself that I have jumped off the deep end, placed orders for most of what I need and will soon start a new build thread.

I will do the sensible thing by recognising this will be my first rather than ultimate motion simulator, and a way to experiment with the build and learn about SimTools with the generous support and guidance of yourself and others. I am looking forward to it, particularly as the 3 Worm Drive Motors arrived last night. So get ready for those pesky questions ;)

    Thanks bsft.

Just warning you in advance that I am likely to start by using your brilliant and compact Desk Racer 2 DOF as the basis for my first project. While I have ordered enough for 3DOF I will start with 2DOF, as I will initially keep it simple and could also really use a portable sim.

Hello everyone, I live in Belgium and became interested in the technology behind motion platforms after trying the Star Wars attraction @ EuroDisney :p
I now realize that a 6 DOF platform may be (a little bit) overkill for my spare time driving simulation needs so I'll look into building a 2 or 3 DOF system in the coming months.

    Cheers !

Welcome @DarkMoS, start a build post and note down your ideas people will chime in and gladly guide you along.
Yes I do recommend 2dof for racing add a drift(traction loss) table later will bring 3DOF alive.

@eaorobbie ok I've changed my mind lol I'm going for a cheap 2dof to start me off and get to grips with welding (can't be that hard just like siliconing I imagine bahaha) and using the Arduino and monstermotos. Will try and make it future proof so I can add to it later.

I have a gameracer pro that I'm going to butcher and use to start off with and keep the costs down to see how I do.

@SilentChill heres a design I use myself to mod friends static frames to game motion, Its only a SeatMover configuration but a cheap start that can be added onto later , for example a sway table/surge table/traction loss frame can all be added under it like a module add on.

    Cross Section of Seat Mover.png
Producing this kind of movement with my son whos not a little boy, buggers bigger than me, Don't know what I fed him.

Edit: I original built this unit to show on InsideSimRacing that a common PVC frame built by SIMUL8R could be turned into a seat mover for under 8oo dollars. 1/3 of the cost of the advertised seatmovers on the site. Got a funny response.

@eaorobbie wow I like it looks really good. Great movement and feedback from the road surfaces looks ruff as hell lol

Thanks a lot for the diagram I can use that for deffo Just need my feet on the pedals as I will be using the Rift for monitors.

    Cheers,
    Craig.

How about a more balanced solution? ;)

This way you will have higher COG and lots of dynamic travel (up to 45 degrees).

@tronicgr I'm wondering where would you put the seat with the pillar coming out pretty much where the COG is ?

Thanks for the idea the more the merrier I'm open to everything Im learning as I go along

Ahh ok looks good too a little bit harder to make I think with what I've got to go on.

The motion does seem smoother though or is that just me ?

Its not harder to make. It equal hard to make as with the seatmovers. It uses the exactly same cardan joint and motors and same end rod connectors. Its actually more compact for full cockpit, where the wheel and pedals are actually following the motion.

Not sure how much professional driving you have done , no way emulates what is happening in side a cockpit, really only good for flight.
But this is not a how to thread so welcome to start your own thread and explain what you mean there. Plus the last time I had a chance to look into the internals of a bluetiger they don't use DC motors, lol. SeatMover are basic to build and can be constructed for less than you sell your controller for , lol.

There are lots of examples that you can down scale motion platforms. 6DOF platforms had only AC motors and linear servo motors before... doesn't mean that you can't do it with DC motors. My joyrider had 90degrees range with car wiper motors... The same balanced consent as bluetiger. They used AC servomotors (90v) on the bluetiger as its commercial product. Its very basic actually.

Oh, I'm sorry... I seen a few persons giving their suggestions, diagrams and videos and I thought.... I forgot that its forbidden to talk for any "other" type except seatmovers in this forum. My fault for trying to help...!!

Btw, New Users! Welcome! Welcome to x-seatmover.net!!! :popcorn lol

PS. I'm not trying to sell my controller... for a 2dof... LOL why? You are confusing my intentions to help newcomers see beyond typical designs. I have a life and day job, don't want to spend all my free time with hours of sourcing parts, soldering hundreds of parts and endless testing... I don't beg anyone to buy it, not even advertising it, I don't have online shop and I have no intentions of doing any kind of business with it, unlike others. I build very few of them, if I happen to have some free time, and interest. Let other companies like Pololu, Sparkfun, and china vendors sell their robot controllers to you, you pay them for their controllers and parts and services right? After all you get what you pay for.

Time to bomb this thread a bit more,
so then this design doesnt qualify as compact?
    2014-03-24 12.15.05.jpg
Granted the profile may need some tweeking

Ive done full frames, so they are all wrong then?

And Yes I completely agree , you get what you pay for. Pololu and its JRK is one Example, micro controller and h-bridge in one. Simple to set up, no code to write, full warranty available, has proven itself to last many years under ridiculous treatment. Backed by a reputable company with many years of experience and also they are willing to listen to customers comments about improving its product and allowing itself to realise mistakes made by customers and they provide excellent service to repair-replace if needed.
