That was one of things I was gonna try later. I install all my games to E: as C: is only a small ssd. So I directed simtools to E: to do the patch. Patch worked and game connects and is running in manager and engine just no output.

@noorbeast you were correct. I had directed the patch to the game directory no the saved games directory.
I decided to install to the ssd C: anyway to be sure but this time I patched to the saved games directory and after 2 attempts it is now working fine.
    Thanks
That'll teach me to read the instruction and not assume.

Hi all. I am new to the site and have been looking all over for info on building my own motion sim racer. From what I have seen so far, it looks like I have stumbled on a gold mine of information. Over the past few months I have built myself a stationary Sim Cockpit, but I am not satisfied with the static experience. I am keen to go to the next level of racing sim, but the more I read, the more I realize how much I have to learn. It looks like I am going to be spending a lot of my time here in the future.
Cockpit Building my current sim, I have realized that I actually enjoyed enjoyed building the thing more than actually using it to race, so I believe that I am up for the next challenge, so I am looking forward to learning from you guys as much as possible and maybe in the future I will be able to Contribute some knowledge as well.
I am living in South Africa so it can sometimes be a challenge to obtain some equipment, but then again, if everything was too easy, would not you appreciate it all.

Looking forward to learning a lot. Cheers, Marius

Welcome @Marius Kleinhans to the wonderful world of motion sim building, you will find both useful information here and exceedingly knowledgeable and helpful community members.

Have a good poke around existing member projects, there are lots of different ideas and approaches to be found for sim building: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

When you are ready to start planning then create a build thread of your own and ask lots of questions.

Hello from France, I do not plant to build a simulator right now because I don't have the room needed, but I can't get this project off my head so I will start with a 1/20 model with RC servos in order to test the electronics and firmware.

For the mechanics I think I will build a joyrider-like simulator powered by 12V motors. I want it to be the cheapest possible with a wide motion angle. I am more an electronic guy than a mechanic so PVC pipes are quite appealing to me :) But that is just speculations for the moment, I will see that when I will have the room to build and use it.

    Welcome @petrus.

Building a model is a good way to sort out your own ideas and come to grips with SimTools. Do let us know how your experiments progress and ask any questions that come to mind, there are some really helpful members here.

i have done a PVC pipe build frame before, a bit more expensive than steel, but lighter and easier to put together

    EDIT : @petrus

Nice rig bsft, I like the big actuators ;)
Don't worry noorbeast, I will open a thread about my model / electronics as soon as I will have something to show.

    Hello,

Registered some time ago, but I am becoming more interested in this community recently. I am getting ready to build a 3-DOF racing simulator and I'd like to explore the possibility of using Simtools. I use GTR2 (a lot), rFactor and Rfactor2. I am also contemplating Assetto Corsa.

I have completed the CAD drawings, acquired two SCN5's 100 mm, and I am ordering a third; I have Devantech USB-RS485 (3 units) together with all electronic components to connect the SCN5's

I have the race seat, Power Supplies (3 of 24V 3A, switching, fully protected).

I am detailing the structural parts, and will be using either 8020 or Misumi Extruded profiles, whichever comes up cheaper

The design incorporates three 19 " monitors with Fresnel lenses. I have two of the monitors and the lenses. I recently installed a Gigabyte GTX 750 video card, which should be able to handle the monitors.

sounds good, just start a new thread with the planned build. And look up @nclabs for wiring the SCN to simtools.

I am a mechanical engineer by trade, but after retirement and finding I couldn't stay idle, started teaching mathematics part-time at a community college.
I entered simracing using Rfactor, a G25 wheel set, then discovered GTR2 and fell in love with it. I drive mostly prototypes, with Radical SR9 my favorite ( In the beginning of my engineering career I worked in prototypes for three years, hence my love for prototypes).
As soon as Rfactor2 became available, I ordered, and have been updating constantly. I like the F2 series, Megane Trophy and Group C by MAK. The Mazda 787B is my favorite. I think when RF2 is finalized, it will be a treat. Recently I started considering Assetto Corsa, and might treat myself for Christmas.
Currently I have a G27 after a real bad experience with the F...........
I have been building Pocher models for a while, and have completed a 1934 Mercedes Benz roadster and a 1931 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza.
Other interest are baroque music, Russian folklore and Orthodox music, and reading.

The rig I am planning to build is 3 DOF, since the lack of seat of pants feedback is a real hindrance in simracing.

Welcome @Hmaia, you have a great background for motion sim building.

There have been a number of members either building or upgrading to 3DOF. Have a poke through the project page for lots of different ideas and designs: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

When you are ready start a new build thread and ask lots of questions as you formulate you plans, there are lots of really knowledgeable and helpful people here who give freely of their time and expertise.

New to the forum, been looking around the forums, and a little undecided on where to head. I'm interested in a 2DOF motion sim. Probably looking at Motomonster & Arduino (Purely based upon cost), but considering some worm gear motors..... again struggling to get my head around everything, but it's early days......

Also, not sure about power supplies, saw some stuff in a post suggesting 12v, 47a (old server) power supply might work, but again, trying to get my head around it......

Anyways, just thought I'd intro myself.

    Welcome @fry82.

There is indeed a bit to get your head around, but you will find lots of helpful members here.

Here is the info on modding server power supplies: http://www.xsimulator.net/community...-server-power-supply-for-12v.5774/#post-60617

For a quick look at the basic 2DOF design check out @eaorobbie's outline with measurements here. You can also review various 2DOF design options that @@bsft has started here.

Do poke around the extensive member project list for inspiration.

When you are ready do create a project thread of your own and ask lots of questions, even in the planning phase...it will save you a great deal of grief, time and money.
