Good stuff buddy, I couldn't be happier to have opened your eyes to the possibilities out there. There are FAR too many who think Motion is a Far Fetched dream when in reality its the complete opposite if you show a little initiative and will to learn something new.

I've been lurking here for years, and nick pushed me over the edge. But lack of time and even more lack of knowledge has held me back. I think the idea is exactly what I want for my setup but that price is laughable. Was eyeing the diy scn6 kit from sim xperience since I'm a Big guy pushing 138kg!

Certainly a SimXperience kit is an option @leemstradamus, but so too is drawing on the member experience and expertise found here to build your own high performance 'Big Guy' sim that supports a whole range of game titles, at a fraction of the cost.

@leemstradamus I hear you, 24 hours in a day just isn't enough. But, if you are really keen I'm sure you will manage to make time. As for knowledge, I had no idea about what is involved in building a motion sim until I started reading many threads here. That was a little over a week ago. I am now in the process of building a sim. Don't get my wrong, there are still plenty of things I am unsure of at this stage but I am confident that with the help of the community it will all work out.:thumbs

That's what @Nick Moxley was saying. I'm really picky on what I want the finished product to look, and know next to nothing about getting things fabricated. I'll post a thread tonight to get my ideas going. One thing is certain, the community is amazingly knowledgeable and very friendly.

@leemstradamus , if you are a "more of you to love" guy, I suggest shoulder mount seat mover with 12v 180-200 watt motors 60:1 boxes on them and JRKS to suit.
Theres plenty if ideas for frames to build.
You could make something from 50mm PN18 rating PVC pipe, a shoulder seat mover, pipe goes together easy, and painted looks really good.
A simx kit less actuators could be used, but with a bloke your size, the steering knuckle uni may fail. Hence a cut down tailshaft would be better.
Motors have a dig around. We have already found out that motors them selves need to be under 4000 rpm ideally. Gearboxes and lever, @noorbeast has rattled something up there.
The Simx kit would probably break and as soon as Bernard finds out what size you are, do not be surprised if warranty is voided in a instant.

I was looking seriously to buy this Next Level motion yesterday, then started reading about Motion and learnt quite alot of new things via this forum ~ totally awesome community for sure ! :)

I spent most of last night reading various build threads and viewing the pics and links to youtube clips of some rigs in action - amazing what some guys have created. But now I am sorry to say it has lessened my initial enthusiasm ... don't get me wrong, the info and builds pics etc. are totally awesome. The problem for me is it has made me face the fact that it is outside of my capability for several reasons. Aside from few health problems, I am not much of a handyman and do not have any tools at all to cut or join timber or metal, or the workspace needed for the construction.

So I am back to square one and have been searching the internet for some sort of economical alternative for a 2 or 3 DOF seat mover type system that comes sort of preconfigured as a kit you can just assemble, where everything required that needs cutting or joining is ready to be put together and maybe just some parts have to be acquired online or locally. But it seems there is nobody out there doing such a system - or if there is I am not looking in the right places.

I was hopeful that someone (preferably in Australia) might be doing something on a small scale where they make a few motion kits and sell one or two off at different times. Anyone heard of such an operation at all or is that unrealistic ?

Any and all advice cheerfully accepted. cheers Mark.

While there are many active Aussie members here I don't think there is an Aussie kit as such @Ramjet, which really just leaves the commercial options.

The closest thing I can think of to a kit frame would be to use the MayCad Designer to design the frame, order the parts and just bolt that part together, but it would be expensive: http://www.may-cad.org/en/p1.htm

You could grab some motors for Motion Dynamics, have an engineering firm or willing mate make a basic frame and a couple of things like the motor mounts, arms and rods, then get some potentiometers, JRKs, server PSUs and do some wiring. But that is not really what you are looking for. Another option would be to find a MensShed in your area and get some help building it that way.

Yeah I see, the choices for ready to go stuff seems so limited, it is either very high end or this new offering by Pagnian, the Next Level motion rig. But it is hard to find any real info on it or proper video reviews etc. I just wonder how strong the actuators are and how it would hold up over time cause just under $3K is a heap of dough eh !?

Really though I still do not know or understand enough about all of this, so I keep researching.

Thanks for you response though it is surely appreciated :)

is this the same @Ramjet who made output program for Model 2 Emulator?

While some builds are really technical and can take along time you can make a simple one which would still be really enjoyable. A seat on a pivot point bolted down to a sheet of mdf and with 2 motors with rods connecting to the seat somewhere. somewhat similar to this

I wouldn't use actuators myself as something like worm gear drive motors are great and cheaper but don't give up man! Its very much possible if you plan it out first and without radical skills you can still create something cool

$3K is cheap for a commercial motion simulator, but you still also need their static frame, but is indeed a lot compared to a DIY motion sim. I guess you do have things like warranty with a commercial sim.

Hey @Ramjet - I agree with the other guys here. Don't give up hope. When I first looked into this, I thought this was way out of my league too. But after a fair bit of research, I decided to go ahead and build a motion sim. It does seem very taunting at the beginning, but if you have a somewhat good concept of what is required, you will get there. Don't rush into it as there will be challenges, but again, it is all do-able.
    Any questions, just ask.:thumbs

@Boomslangnz - sorry mate, don't even know what a model 2 emulator is ! Saw that video last night along with quite a few others and was amazed what you guys are able to do.

@noorbeast ~ Somebody has already fitted the Next Level kit to an Obutto cockpit so I don't have to buy their frame but I read here the opinion of some guys who say the speed of movement looks very bad in the video - it is stated as 10 degrees/sec and range is +/- 10deg. I did just find a video uploaded in past couple days of a guy playing Richard Burns Rally on the same Next Level rig and it looked ok to me but I don't have the eye for what you guys obviously see.

Seems I cannot post links but if you enter into the youtube search bar - Richard Burns rally 2015 Pagnian next level motion sim - from only 2 days ago.

I really do appreciate the encouragement but I have a few fixed obstacles at this point in time. That is why I am hopeful to find someone who has a bit of a background operation going and I can pay them for their skills, time and effort rather than trying to buy & collect a heap of tools that I would never use again.

I am still doing some reading and searching on the net though at this stage, so maybe I find some other option that I hadn't seen yet ~ there is so much to troll through. cheers mark.

Love RBR but haven't played it in years ... Project Cars & Assetto Corsa eat all my race time !

Noorbeast, mate what do you think of the footage of that motion rig in action ?

To my eye it looks good but as I said I certainly do not know exactly what to look for ... I did notice slight delay watching some other vids posted, when the driver turns the wheel in real life to when the car on screen moves and then delays slightly to the seat moving, but it didn't look to me that it would change the user experience greatly, or does it ?

A mark of a good sim is how closely it replicates the onscreen action.

It is really hard to truly judge the full capacity of the Next Level rig, the motion is OK, but could be sharper, which may or may not be possible depending on the fine tune controls, whatever they may be.

We need someone in Melbourne to pop into the new VRden and actually try one out: https://www.facebook.com/theVRden

@Ramjet , the only other thing in motion is a Simxperience kit and they are over $3k as well.
Is anyone in Australia able to help this guy with a possible kit?
    @SeatTime @eaorobbie @RufusDufus . Maybe these guys can help.

An informed report from someone with knowledge, from around these parts, would be good to have :)

Tuning controls apparently via software are to modify bumps/vibration, motion, and pitch/roll strength or intensity.

Do the specs relating to the movement mean much to you Noorbeast ? ie.
    1. Powerful Actuators with upto 600 Newtons of thrust and push
    2. Upto 4000 motion updates per second
    3. Max Angular Displacement for Pitch & Roll : +- 10°
    4. Max Speed : 10°/s
    5. Max Acceleration : 360°/s2
    6. Maximum Vertical Lift : 10cm
    7. Vibrations for Frequenices upto 50hz

Are these things genuinely quantifiable and legitimate do you think ? Like can they be measured such that they would be dumb to claim them if someone could easily test and negate them if they were false ? Or am I getting to particular about the whole thing.

I ask because I am seriously wondering if this might be the route I have to take, all things considered.

Sorry Dave, just saw your post now ... I have been looking at that Simxperience rig and they seem very costly as well as max weight being 113kg and I am around 110kg so not exactly Twiggy.

Upto is a bit vague but yes they can be measured and in Australia you don't make commercial claims that can not be verified...one advantage of strong consumer laws.
