Another reason @Roy you don't see many of the good builds fully documented is because people who want to start a sim building business troll this site regurally to create their commercial builds from our drawings and information.

Basically if you are the totally noob and cant phathom working out how to build a sim, ya in the wrong place, join the many other sites that provide kits and expensive slow and buggy software. We exist because of their expensive rip off ways.

I have seen many members who I deemed at the start not being able to even grip the building side of it , eventually totally surprising us with some excellent builds.

Sorry to all to seem rude about this but this is getting to the point that , I nearly don't want to be involved anymore. Everyone want to make zillions from other peoples hard work and advice and the dev guys get fn nothing for all the hundreds of hours they put in it so that people can have motion and not pay the ridiculous prices commercial guys want for crap simulators and software.
Its why we exist not for them but for the guys who want to learn and give it a go.

    Again sorry.

Hey I can understand your point of view. Really I'm only interested in doing this so that my friend who doesn't read that well won't go and spend hundreds of dollars on stuff and end up throwing it away. He isn't really in a position where he can throw money away, he's like most people. And the other thing is how long is this fad going to last for him. Basically he wants others to participate with him and when they loose interest so does he. I work month on month off, and my job takes me out of the country. I have most of the stuff other then the electronics and motors. Personally I can use the keyboard much better then the G25, but with the KB the throttle is full on or off. Tried using the peddles but not all games will allow you to use them, if they do well I really didn't want to spend the time to find out. Personally I'm a first person shooter type of guy. On the Commercial side of the argument you presented, I think these guys just might have all that info they need to do this. Unless someone comes up with something totally new and revisionary like electrodes into the brain, I don't think we need to worry.

One of the things we can help advise on is a parts shopping list and where to get stuff, once a design has been worked out. If you determine you are going to build a 2DOF shoulder mount, tells us where you are in the world, then collectively members here would have a pretty good idea of what you need and where to get it at a reasonable price. And we can provide ongoing advice before, and during each phase of a build and setup.

Building a sim does take time though and some inevitable frustrations. Again the community can assist in troubleshooting a hiccup or problem, but we can't do that for a person, so some perseverance is needed.

Good luck using a keyboard as driving peripherals on a Motion rig. :roll

If you cant be bothered to even find out if said games will work with wheel and pedals, what Will you spend time on ? Building a rig isn't a 2 hour quicky job you know. Takes time effort and willingness to learn new thing's.

Did you not understand what I had written....you took time to hi-lite some of it. Racing Sims isn't really my cup of tea but I WILL give it my 100% for my friend. You think building Sims is the Cat's Meow, well try restoring old cars from the ground up. Don't be so condescending when a person doesn't show as much enthusiasm as you think they should, you may not think it but I DO appreciate all the time and work you guys put in to your builds, presenting your work and answering questions. What I don't appreciate is the Holier then thou attitude. I DON'T know it all and I'll never know it all. Thats why I spent 5 days reading this particular forum. As others on here have said to me, we have lives other then just building Sims. If this gets me banned, so be it.....

@Roy Just settle for a simple 2dof seat mover after all as you stated it could most probably be a passing fad for your "mate" and could be upgraded to a full frame at a later date anyway. Use @earobbie's plans which give all the measurements etc for a proven design or copy @bsft's deskracer. There's plenty of info on the forum re types of motors, size of steel tubing (your mate welds right?) JRK's vers ards and Motomonsters and all that stuff. Geez mate I've just finished building a rig using info on this site and I'm 87 with a crook back, had to use Plywood and MDF, but I got there. I must admit I spent more than 5 days cruising the site (more like 5 months) taking notes all the time, there must be a thousand variations everything considered.
Get the frame welded up,start a thread and you'll get all the advice you need re all aspects. Fanatec 010.JPG

lol, this thread made my day. In the same time where this thread has been written I (or Roy) could open a new thread ("My Sim") by presenting my idea and asking for help if something is gone wrong or not clear. So I did, as a noob more than a year ago, before that collected information, was reading tons of threads and comments, at least I made my shopping list w/o asking someone where or what I should buy. Except for the occasional one I own the same hardware now, only tuned or upgraded by itself (one MM, two MMs, 4 MMs...) That is the way, one step at a time and the passion to do it, although at the beginning you are asking yourself: "Would ever run these parts????"

I believe I seen on here somewhere, that someone was using two computers to run their Sim. In an email from one of the online computer suppliers I order parts from they had the RP B+ on sale for $35 Can. And after reading some of the builds using Arduino's @ $30, I thought I would use this instead to control the motor driver, yes - no?? Is my "Logic" flawed?

Are you talking of a dual PC setup, where on one PC the GameManager and on the other the GameEngine runs? (see here)

Wrong...please re read my posting above . The dual PC system is a different thing like @value1 has suggested. First PC= game, second PC = SimTools

That might have been it. As the RP B+ is toted as I full fledged computer and has a wide range of adapter boards and such, I thought this could take the place of the Ard. I know the Ard has a lot of boards as well
