Greetings from Lusaka, Zambia. I wonder if there are any other African members in the forum. I have decided to go the DIY path to adding motion and gauges to my RBR sim using Arduino boards. Hope I get as much help from this forum as I have seen other member

    Welcome @Chosa4.

You will find the community here is both active and helpful.

There is extensive information in the FAQ section which covers a range of topic areas, like types of simulators, designs and building resources: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

If you are having a hard time understanding terms or acronyms then have a look at the Glossary of Acronyms and Names: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread.

On your thread do ask questions, there is a lot to take in but the community is good at giving tips during planning, reviewing purchase lists, giving feedback and encouragement during the build and providing advice on actually sorting out motion profiles.

And don't forget to take a moment and add yourself to the Member Map: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/memberMap/

    Good luck with your project.

Unfortunately no. If you can't wait - SimVibe is expensive but does the job well.

    G'Day everyone,
    I'm Brett from Victoria, Australia.
Have played around with force feedback steering wheels for a while, and now want to experience a full simulation system. Had considered buying one of the commercial systems, but as I have a manufacturing business that specializes in producing metal components, thought I should take up the challenge of building my own. We have CNC machining centres and lathes, a laser cutter, brake presses, welders, etc, so the fabrication side shouldn't be an issue (famous last words). Also, we have built our own Elfin Clubman racing car, as well as assisted others to build theirs.
The mere mention of what I may be doing has resulted in a customer and several mate's enquiring if we could produce at least the basic "structure" for them, so would like to use commonly available parts if possible. Obviously there will be lots of trial and error along the way.
So, does anyone know of where or have recommendations for obtaining reasonably cheaply, in quantities of say 5:
    - a basic lightweight seat? (Could fabricate our own from steel or aluminium, but then it needs to be padded)
    - a suitable unijoint/yoke NOT from a wreckers? DIY anyone?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Brett

Welcome @Brett, another Aussie joins the motion sim fold!

    I do envy your workshop.

Can I suggest you start your own thread and re-post your questions there, rather than on the new member page. That way all the info will be captured in one place without cluttering the welcome page here.

    Thanks noorbeast,
You can make that suggestion, and I will post in another thread. :)
It does come in very handy having this factory, although the missus always seems to come up with some new project in metal that we HAVE to make. :-o My turn now.

    Welcome @Bodax.

I think you will find SimTools is both easy to use and provides high quality motion for a vast array of game titles. There is also a very active and knowledgeable community here, who give freely of their time and expertise.

If you want do a dual post in French and English via Google translate. If language is an issue in trying to make something clear then you will find native French speaking members will help clarify what you mean for the rest of us.

When you are ready please start your own project thread, tell us a bit about your simulator and please do add some photographs and if possible a video.

Hi, I'm Robin, from Sweden. You have to excuse me for the profile picture.
I'm all new to this kind of simulator. So my plan is to build a small 2dof version and then build a fullscale version with wiper motors =)

    Welcome @Svensson.

A model is a great way to get to learn about SimTools and motion simulator design. Have a look at @eaorobbie's guide and code here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/rc-model-for-motion-simulation.4600/

You will find plenty of good examples of motion simulators that use wiper motors, here are just some that spring to mind:

    By @-kevin-: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/monster-sim-carbon-loock-by-kevin.5951/

    By @RacingMat: http://www.xsimulator.net/2dof-motion-simulator-truck-wiper-motor-playseat/

You will find plenty more inspiration in the member build section: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

When you are ready please start your own project thread and ask plenty of questions.

    Welcome @Blocos77

It would be great if you could start your own build thread and add to further details and some photos. Mixing a Geko and 2DOF is a really interesting approach and I look forward to seeing it.

My name is Aaron. I came to this website specifically to seek advice on building a rotational degree of freedom motion SIM (high aspirations lol). I have been lurking for about a week. I know nothing about mechanisms in general but I have always wanted to learn. My dad is an electrician by trade and really hasn't ever been able to teach me anything other than that. Anyway that concludes my introduction, Im looking forward to seeing everyone's projects.

    Welcome @itaaronc

The best way to go is start your own project thread, post an explanation and drawing of what you would like to build and then ask lots of questions, even in the planning phase. The community here is very active, with a wealth of collective experience and expertise.

Please do take a moment and add yourself to the Member Map: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/memberMap/

I am looking forward to hearing more about you project.
