    Hi guys,

Looking at doing my first attempt at 2dof although still a little lost but we shall see what happens!

Slowly starting to build the frames and getting everything ready, going with arduinos and monster moto's although still undecided on the actual motor route, i was looking to go with wiper motors but not sure what are decent to get in the UK so im considering: 12V DC Geared Motor, Motor with 60:1 ratio Gearbox

    From Motion Control Products

Although a quick question about the motors (or in general?) with the potentiometers, would i need to drill the shaft to mount the pots to, or would you be mounting them on the same side that the arm would be going to?

    Update 8/7/15

Motors, power supply, arduino and monster moto ordered, I think due to the motors I've gone with now, i might be best ordering a second MM

Started building the race frame, for now it is being built out of wood and for the seat I will be using one of my old rx7 seats for now, terrible build picture time :

    Update 13/7/15

Not done much yet and still waiting on motors, order second MM and power supply, picked up a propshaft locally for a tenner.

So far the seat is now mounted to the frame meaning the only main thing to do is to sort the steering wheel mount

Basically aslong as the pot is attached to the moving part it should be ok :)

Has anyone got any suggestions on motors (i know it gets asked), seems like decent looking wiper motors end up costing nearly as much as the ones I linked, just wondering if it's worth finding some cheap wiper motors or spending the money

    Mr. greetings WhiteGoblin
WhiteGoblin, what the size of your platform?
I use actuator motors for wipers caminhãos of the windshield. THE have the same with a reduction gear which can provide greater strength and torque required for movement.

Hi @Kamatari I would advise you use a second MM one per motor at least (I've got the same motors and have used them with both MMs and JRKs )MMs there seems to be a lot of faulty ones on the market at the moment so I would test they are ok before so you don't get confused thinking the problem is software related good luck with your project:thumbs

Also where are you located in the uk ?

I think if I was going the wiper route I might have got away with one MM but with these motors I was thinking it might be best for one per, so I shall follow the advice (and hope that the MM's are good)

    I'm located in birmingham :)

The plan was to try and keep the cost down but trying to find some decent motors, just seemed worth spending the little bit extra

Guessing that would be the case, anywhere/thing in particular to get?

I'm hoping my build thread will help others as I haven't got a clue really so will be amazed if it works :)

I went to a prop shaft company local to me and asked for the universal joint end with about 400mm of pipe still attached charged me £20 I was more than happy as the nearest car breakers a lot further away and saved me time :thumbs
