Will definately be giving it a read, I've got the second MM ordered, from a quick read of your thread, I'm guessing it is worth while buying a second powersupply aswell?

I shall have a look round for the prop shaft, my biggest problem is I have never welded before so I may need a few  and something to mount it to

Yes 2 power supply's is also a must, if you were ever down around my way I could weld up what ever you need :cheers

Second power supply ordered... don't think I like this forum now, just keep spending and spending :( but ill keep you in mind if it all goes wrong :)

Hopefully might have found a prop shaft for pretty cheap if I hear back from the person, although is a car prop alright or should I be needing it from something bigger?

So I think all I need to order would be potentiometers and rods to connect the motors to the frame so it can move

Yeah I think most attack it with low cost in mind and then you just think in for a penny in for a pound lol

A car prop is more than fine:)

It's still fairly low cost just the motors which did a big dent which in turn needed double of what I ordered

But back on the cost saving, all being well I should have waiting for me when I get home (as I'm getting someone to collect it) a prop shaft for a tenner, which means I Need to work out how tall it needs to be and then cut it down and then need to make some metal squares to weld to it, for the plates I've got an old steel bonnet ( I think) so think I'll sacrifice it :) I've got quite a few car parts, tempting to add stuff for the frame might just dig out all the interior parts ;)

If it's a Car bonnet it might not be thick enough steel you want minimum 3mm maybe with some gussets or around 5mm

Is it a full frame or seat mover ?

I'll check on the bonnet, it is quite heavy, probably won't be good enough but we shall see

Going to be a full frame if all goes to plan

Your really don't want to risk any flex, so over engineer the mount rather than go with light material. A bonnet is nowhere near rigid enough.

If you are going full frame then think lite !! More weight the harder the motors will have to work
Get the centre of gravity perfect to do that you need everything I mean everything mounted to the frame that you want to run (steering wheel, pedals, shifter, speakers etc etc )then get in and get someone to help mark it out (I got caught on this one my COG Was only off by only a little bit but coursed a few issues for me)

I'm still learning but these are a few things that court me out and thanks to the great support of this site the problems were sorted:cheers

I'm hoping that it won't be too heavy, otherwise it's start the frame all over again

I have picked up these though
    20150710_103118.jpg

Meaning I have two chances, hopefully not too bad for a tenner, just hoping they will be good enough

would I be ok just putting a plate on the one side that doesn't have the mount or best to do extra? And a potential silly question but how long should I do the pivot, I know it needs to atleast clear the motors

Yeah the one at the bottom of the picture is the boy you want, bargain at a tena:thumbs
A plate at the bottom is all you need just cut it at the length of your choice and weld a plate with 4 holes and ya good to go.

Length of shaft is up to you I would set it at a height that's comfortable to climb in and out, remember it easier to make it shorter than longer lol

Ok cool was going to use that one first and worst case I have the other as a backup, came across them yesterday which said tenner if collected and as it was only down the road it would have been rude not to :)

And I shall work out the height, will probably wait for the motors to turn up first ( and finish the main frame)

What do people normally use for the ctc's, is it just basically anything that will connect the motor to the frame...

Also how do you work out the length of the bar (slowly sounding silly) as I'm guessing it is based on how tall I mount the platform from the base

What CTC to use for the levers depends on the design of the rig, the motors and gear ratio used and the mass it needs to move above a certain speed for good motion. Generally for a DC wormdrive powered rig that will range from 25mm CTC for say a wiper motor powered compact rig, to 65mm CTC or more for a high speed shoulder mount seat shaker powered by 200w 180 RPM motors with 25:1 gearboxes.

Many of us make levers with multiple CTCs to give a bit of room for experimentation and adjustments.

You can get an idea of the basics here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/calculating-basic-linear-speed-and-forces.89/

The motors are 12V DC 80rpm 60:1. is there anything in particular to use as levers?

Also something to think about regarding your pivot/driveshaft... The plate above my joint is to close and limits the range of movement. When I move the top portion it hits the joint at extreme angles. This will be fixed but what a pain. So when I look at the pics make sure your u joint moves freely without hitting the mount plate at the top.

I shall keep it in mind :) I am now at the stage to look at doing the motion platform part now I reckon :)

    20150714_210846.jpg

We gave it a test drive last night (although awaiting a G27 to replace the cheap one I have ) and it seems to work well as a seat...

Which to add to a question, does anyone use their motion platform for non motion gaming and if so do you add some supports or anything ?

I can't remember who but someone used hinged wooden blocks under the motor leavers when their sim was not powered.

With ratios over 50:1 you can sit in a sim unpowered and it will hold. Mine doubles as my office chair using a 60:1.
