    Great progress @Ville Pesonen :thumbs

I am guessing that is a screen mount over the pedals. If so have you balanced the rig with the screen on it, along with the seat and yourself in in?

It's not a screen mount. It's meant for the Oculus Rifts tracking camera.
I remember you saying that vibrations might become an issue in driving games with the Rifts camera mounted on the sim. If / when that is a problem I'll mount the camera on a tripod off of the sim. I'm hoping that Elite Dangerous would not induce too much vibrations as I'd imagine it would be more pleasant to play it without "moving" too much around the ship when the sim moves.

    My mistake @Ville Pesonen.

Elite is pretty gentle compared to racing simulation.

I am waiting on a part to test an idea around Rift camera mounts, so hopefully I can advise further soon on the outcome.

very little progress on the frame this weekend. Finished the motor mounts and the lever stick thing on the motors. The ctc:s are 8 and 4,5 cm.

    The sim is nearing completion!
The connection rods are finished so the sim looks like a sim now.

I'm not sure about the width of the connection points of the rods and the frame. I might have to make it a little narrower to get more roll on the sim. We'll see how this works.

The rods are made from a solid metal rods (can't remeber the width). I drilled holes in both ends and welded a M10 threads to the ends to attach the joints.

I printed couple of hand knobs for m8 bolts to make the wheel adjusting a bit easier. Now I don't need a wrench to adjust the wheel.

Too bad that I can not test them, as my simulator is at the "construction" site 20km away.
here's a time lapse video of one of them printing for your amusement.

I was on a 5 week holiday trip but now I'm back home. I'll continue the build probably next week as this week is already booked.
If I remember correctly, the next thing on the to-do list is to see if I can make it move. After that it's time to paint it.

Yesterday I soldered a shield for the arduino to make it easier to connect it to the H-bridges and potentiometers. Now it's easier to swap the arduino if it breaks. The shield only has connectors soldered and wired to it.

it's an improvement over the wire mess that I had earlier

I blew the other H-bridge while I was testing the electronics. The motor only spins to one direction so I guess the other half bridge got fried on the board. Well, I can only blame myself for putting 12 volts to wrong pin on it :D I should have double checked the wiring....
Anyway, I ordered 2 more H-bridges and hopefully I get them soon. in the mean time I hope to finish everything else on the sim so it's ready to move when the H-bridge arrives.

I know that feeling when you don't double check wires.. I try it with car battery once and after that i check everything at least twice. Hope you get those H-bridges soon and get sim running without other problems. It's good to see other members in Finland in this page. Keep up the good work!:thumbs

@mrbeginner That car battery incident sounds like it did some damage?

Some progress today. I assembled the sim today, well at least the parts that I had with me. Now I have a bass shaker attached to the bottom of the seat.
    2015-07-22 18.11.11.jpg 2015-07-22 18.11.24.jpg 2015-07-22 18.18.57.jpg

I also got the sim moving for the first time today! The potentiometers were not connected to the motors, but I got the motors to turn manually

I had some problems with my H-Bridge also. It seems it's overheating and shutting down. I'll have to add a fan to cool it down and see if it helps.

Next on the list is to make holders for my Saitek X52 stick/throttle and attach the seatbelt somewhere on the sim. I also have to see if I have to redo the pot connectors. After that I think it's ready to come home.

No worry, this is an expected behavior. Stick some coolers on the chips and use some fans to avoid any shutdowns.

today I got the SIM home. It found a nice little corner for itself.

I'm still waiting for the h-bridge so I can get it to move. In the mean time I'll see if I can get it to move via computer one motor at a time.

    Hi,
nice to see you have your project finished. Looks very clean. I hope the parts will arrive soon so you can go for a ride :)
