    Hi everyone,
    First of all , i just wanna say that i'm from Québec, so i speak french. I have been reading simulator forums for the last 10 years , so i know the history of xsim ( This is what i was using in my last 4 setups). I never tried simtool but i look foward to it. I started with a simple 2 dof with wiper motor seatmover and then build something similar for a friend. I also tried to attach the wheel and pedal to the motion platform and then i went back to a reagular seat-only moving. After some burnt wiper motors ( i asked a lot out of them), i did not had time to repair it for a couple of years ( my son is two years old now...)

    Now is the time to assemble back all the pieces i have acquired over the last couple of years.
    What i will be using:
    -Fantatec csr elite wheel
    -Fanatec clubsport pedal V1
    -Used Kirkey racing seat
    -2 25:1 motor out of ebay ( canadian seller) for the regular 2 dof
    -2 60:1 motor for the drift and surge
    -4 x Jrk 12v12
    -3x27 inch screen
    -2 x aura bass shaker

    My setup is inspired by the great work of SeatTime's DC motor Sim.
    Here is what it looks like so far.

    I tried to keep everything as closed to the ground as i could.

    Here is a shot of the linear bearing i used to do the surge table. I got them free from my work, they are high quality out of a pneumatic linear slide (smc).

    Wow ! Surge effect is very good idea and unusual. Do you think that only one motor will be enough for this effect ?

    I hope so... i can push the whole thing (without somebody in it) with one finger. I will also use a 60:1 motor reductor. I have 10 inch of travel but i may not use it all as i would have to make a longer lever on the motor and loose torque. Nothing is like trial and error!

    I am curious as to what the friction is like of the slides under load and the large CTC used on the lever?

    I should be able to hook up 12v to it tomorrow and see how it behave. I agree, that lever is 6.5 inches long ctc...

    i did some test tonight with the surge and the result are not perfect but not bad. The motor draw more than 35 amp peak easy... it may not be a problem but i'll see. The biggest problem is the weight of the whole thing it makes it hard to stop movement so the PID is hard to setup.
    I was using the jrk setup utility and moving the position slider random.

    The more i think about it the more i will redo the motor configuration.... I think i will go the chain and sprocket route. Do you guys know what kind of chain and sprocket i could easily find. I though of a regular bicycle chain. That way i could try different gears until i figure out what speed versus torque works best. I will do the same for the traction lost.

    Before you do why not try different CTC options on the existing lever, that should give you a pretty fair idea under real load conditions.

    Theoretically the following should apply:

    A 3600rpm/25:1 with 60mm CTC at 144 rpm gives a linear velocity of 0.9047808 m/s with 333 Newtons.

    A 3600rpm/25:1 with 50mm CTC at 144 rpm gives a linear velocity of 0.753984 m/s with 400 Newtons.

    A 3600rpm/25:1 with 40mm CTC at 144 rpm gives a linear velocity of 0.6031872 m/s with 500 Newtons.

    A 3600rpm/25:1 with 25mm CTC, which is as small as it is practical to go, at 144 rpm gives a linear velocity of 0.376992 m/s with 800 Newtons.

    What kind of velocity you think would be ideal? I went for 6.5 inch long CTC because it was the lever giving me the possibility to use the whole movement. If i still want to use the whole travel i'm afraid i will need to use the full 360 degree rotation of the motor instead of about 110 degree. There is no way i will be able to use more rotation on a lever i'm afraid.

    About 8.5 inch total.
    @SeatTime would you recommend going with friction wheel? I was afraid of slippage and having to put the feedback on the rig itself instead of on the motor.:sos

    A little update

    I added a battery in parallel with the jrk power and it did a big difference. I also played a little bit with the PID settings. Not perfect, because there is some play between the motor shaft and the motor itself and also the linkage to the structure is a little bit loose. I think the speed will be great.




    I also started to work on the drift axis.
