Time to test Simtools, and I'm not lucky again...

I've followed @bsft guide, set up the interfaces...etc, I can get my sim moving when using the output testing in Game Engine. So far so good, I buy F1 2012 in Steam, patch the game and give a go => nothing moves :(
Note that I have a profile saved in F1 2012 and have re-patched it a few times.

Tuning centre open, game data input stays on 0, nothing is coming in :( Game Manager tells me "Game running" so it obviously can find my game.

    Please help! :(

Just downloaded "Live for Speed" and it confirms my setup works :D :D

Let's see if someone can fix plugin for F1 2012... ;)

All right, problem fixed :) I had to point the folder mydocuments/mygames/f1... for patching, instead of the Steam folder (even though I'm running Windows 7 32bits).

    Lovely!!! :) :)

Yesterday I've given a chance to the MM, just wanted to see if they were able to handle these motors. Of course, I ordered only two MM and one of them was faulty (rotate the motor in only one direction). I then did my tests with only one MM, one motor.

Well, it doesn't look like anything better than the JRK. I'd say it's even worst since the MM will completely shutdown after a power peak and will take several seconds to start up again. It doesn't seem to me that I could really push the motor more than I do with the JRK (no precise measure there, just personal feeling and estimations).

My conclusion would be to simply avoid these fast motors. They do work, the result (video coming soon) is actually quite good, but require a big power supply (or car battery) and motors will have to be restricted on power consumed and acceleration.

    You're all warned :)

    Hello,
bad to hear one MM is DoA. If you would like to give it a new try, take a look in the FAQ. There is a list of supplyers that are testet by community members.

For the shutdown, there must be other problems, sounds more like a cooling issue. I run exactly the same Motors as you with one MM per Motor. I only noticed that shutdowns you mentioned at the beginning, where I used the thermalpads supplyed with my Northbridge coolers.
After replacing with arctic aluminia thermal adhesive glue the problems are gone. You now can feel the cooler get's quite warm and the heat is transfered properbly.
Your 700W supply should be good enough i only use 470W.

Hum.... I have installed a rather big heat sink, mounted with thermal paste I normally use in my PCs, but there must be room for improvement.

Are you certain you have the exact same reference of motors, the 4700rpm one?

Regarding the PSU, you are right, they should be enough, but then I have to build a proper cooling system. Only one fan blowing on them wasn't enough and I don't want to get this too noisy.
In the mean time a car battery is actually a good silent solution for me :)

    Hello,
I'm glad that it works with the car battery. Maybe I have something read wrong thinking you still have the problems.
The MM didn't need big heat sinks. You can take a look here in Pits post:
    http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/xilence-cooler-for-moto-monster-sparkfun.6277/
This coolers are fitting very nice and do a perfect job. But the delivered thermalpads are not so good.
They are low noise. My Fanatec clubsport whel fan is louder.

I don't know the Rpm of my motors, but i bought it also at MCP in uk with 60:1 Gearbox.

You aren't wrong, I still have to limit the power used by my motor via the JRK utility if I don't want to put the JRKs in error. It works very well, but...yeah...frustrating...

I've just ordered 3MM on eBay as well as the cooling system you recommended me. Hopefully one of them won't be faulty and I can give another try ;)

Back from vacation, new MM's received (as well as their heatsinks)...yeepaaa! I was happy with my first setup (JRK and power limitation), but now with two MM, there is no comparison! Since I can get the motors to run full power, I get a lot more details transmitted to the seat, it's just awesome!

By the way, I ordered 3 MM's on eBay (seller survy2014 http://www.ebay.fr/itm/381256283620), all three are working. (clones or copy I don't know, but it's not written "Sparkfun" on the back).

I just need to fine tune the setup via Smc3Util now and fix my new harness :)

Thanks to you for the link that pointed me to proper heatsink. They seem to do the job, they are compact and it's impossible to hear them. Perfect :)

    Here they are,
I don't know if they are good because I still mess up with my motor settings too.

I have to disagree @Vef445 , and unfortunately its from a JRK point of view, myself and @Avenga76 found that over 4000 rpm motors car be run on a JRK. But we change the utility settings to slow them just enough to stop errors. Then a clever PID fix and a profile fix and they are spot on.
saying that, I see you are running Ard and MM, so good luck with that. Theres plenty of help for those using them

Good to see that it is now working like it should :thumbs. FI, I load tested 12v 350w 5000 rpm motors on a dual MMs setup and they worked perfectly. Unfortunately found it hard purchasing serviceable MM, so ended up going with a 24v setup due to that and other reasons.

Well, that's my point, using the MM I don't have to slow them down ;) I'm not saying it can't work with JRK, I got them working. ;)
