Good Robust Power Supplies?

    Server PSU's are the best u can get for almost nothing.
    If you connect them together you get double the A.
    But check first if you do so, when doing wrong you get double Voltage.

    I know this is an old thread..but here I go. I've found a 720 watt DC motor on ebay. It's 24v's at 29amps F.L..I found a cheep chinese controller that's rated at 40 amps, 80 amps peak. I also found an LED power supply that puts out 30 amps. I thought I was ready to rock, and cash out my cart when I started reading about Starting current. Apparently I need a power supply that provides way more current. I've read about people using capacitors to store up the necessary amperage for start up and directional changes, but others say this is ill advised because they run out of juice quickly. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Wiring multiple PSUs I think will be a last resort.

    Simulation generally runs motors at their stall current, which is usually 3 times rated current, (peak current may not be stall current). So if you have a rated 720 watt motor, allow 2.2kw power for it. Overall, get a BIG power supply for it.

    thanks man, do you have any recommendations for a cheapish 2.2kw power supply? Would you advise against wiring several together?

    how about a smaller motor, remember, with a motor that size, the h-bridge will need to be huge as well

    I'm building a flight sim similar to this one...with a worm geared 720w motor being used for roll. I calculated 188nm being the min to rotate 375lbs. I may be wrong but I figured a 40amp-80amp max controller should be enough to handle the motor. Inrush current at start up is really brief and I don't think (well Im hoping) going 10 amps over max for a second will fry it.

    @BlazinH , maybe you can help here. I think you had run some big arse DC motors on a sim?
