In terms of performance alternatives some motor options you may want to consider are:

    @mariano68's modified electric jack motors:
    http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/2dof-foot-mount-sim-powered-by-12v-electric-jacks.7601/

Using powerful DC winch motors: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/dc-winch-motors-for-motion-simulators.151/

Clarify the specs on these, as the web page states 8nm but the spec sheet says 20-30nm. The RPM is a bit low but if the torque is adequate you can run a bit longer levers on a shoulder mount design. 24V complicates things a little with PSU and control boards but plenty of people use it: http://www.smolka-berlin.de/onlines...C__ITT_404.448_Motor,_Getriebemotor_24_V/4397

We are not allowed to do that :(
That's really annoying. I'll try to contact the manufacturer of the motors and ask him, if he is able to provide payment after shipping /:

    Hi guys!
So here is an update on the Seat-assembly!
I moved the the u-joint as close as possible to the seat. Furthermore, I designed custom seat brackets (cheaper) and the mounting of the profile to the seat base.

    So it's coming along nicely.

    Nice job with the renders.

Have you got the problem of a supplier for motors sorted yet?

    He didn't reply yet unfortunately...
Our teachers said, we should use them as reference for mounting, so that is what I am doing right now ;)

Oh, I seem to have overlooked these!

They are definitely easy to get even here :p
I instantly found a similar jack motor here.
So they have a way more torque, but are slower it seems...

There are a lot of these around....
The problem is, that they don't really offer any description about the motor itself.
    Just:
    12V, 2t liftingability

    that's not really detailed :p

Furthermore, am i still able to control these via JRKS?

I messed about for weeks trying to find motors in the UK and europe. Eventually I just contacted PGsaw on ebay canada who did me a great deal on 3 motors delivered right to my door.

I would have done that immediately, but the school can only buy things if they are paying after delivery.
    Legal reasons you know :(

In my experience pay on invoice is really a business model or policy, rather than being a matter of law, and in most cases there is provision for exceptions via some authorised process.

That aside, is there not some local community minded business or person, who have an existing business relationship with the school, that would be willing to purchase the motors then just re-invoice the school for them?

Honestly the school is making this harder than it needs to be.

    That's the point...
Getting a suitable device to power the simulator is way more time consuming than actually designing/calculating that thing

I didn't expect to run into this problem at all in the first place... Really annoying since we would be already into the building stage otherwise.

I'll set up a meeting now to dicuss how to move on...
I am really sorry for the slow progress guys, but this is sucking my energy out...
I've spent nearly 100h already, without touching anything until now.

I would have built this thing in my shed already, but the school is just not really supporting us :p

Just go ahead and build the frame. You can add the motor mounts and motors at a later stage. Believe me, there are a lot of different parts to a simulator. Especially the frame. I didn't realise this until I actually got started. There are so many small parts to cut, weld, bolt etc. It'll take a long time to sort all those bits out. The motors will only take a day or 2 to get mounts sorted for them, welded on, and set up. It's getting all the other bits for the motors to attach to that will take the most time. If the school have any questions or want to see any information, get them to have a look at this site so they can see how much work and costs are involved. They will then realise that they need to help you out and that you don't have much time to waste waiting on parts or even just looking for parts.

The specs for almost all the 2ton models:
    12v
    max 15amp
    about 50rpm
    And strong enough
And it is just another motor, so you can control them with arduino and MM or JRKs

@IJOJOI . Is there a parents fund raising group you can speak to at the school? I know with my kids school they have such groups of parents set up to help with fundraising. Perhaps get to one of their meetings , talk to them , explain the problem. Maybe someone will open their wallet for you. And as Barry said , just start the frame build. Sort motors out later. And thanks mariano for the motor specs. JRK should move them.

If one buys a 2 channel 24v 30 amp motor controller (pololu roboclaw), how in the hell do you find a power supply large enough to power it? Im thinking about buying one to power two 500w dc motors. I have a 60amp 24v power supply. Would the controller work with this setup?
