Hi all. found the forum when researching motion platforms and simulators. I have no idea what section of the forum to post this in to start with but as this was the section for new users, I thought id start here and be guided.
I have a crazy plan to build a full flight sim for a small Cessna and have been lucky enough to find where I can get a cockpit to build the sim in. What I need to do now is work out how to make it move in at least 2DOF with about 20deg of movement in each of pitch and roll. That will give me more than I need. Yaw would be nice but adds a lot of complication as I see it for the benefit I will get in realism. Ideas so far are a base frame and a support frame above with a big universal joint at the centre of gravity to carry the weight of the cockpit, equipment and two people max. Two decent actuators made of DC geared motors at about 60RPM max interfaced via speed controllers and arduino to the sim using FSUIPC or XUIPC depending if I go to flight sim or X Plane. Problem is although I can design the platform structure, I have no idea what torque I will need for the motors to allow them to move the structure and once I sort out the mechanics, I am a newbie on Arduino too so its going to be a steep learning curve. Overall I think it will be a really good project and lots of fun challenges so I'll be reading up as much as I can and hopefully some of you experienced guys will be able to help me along the way.
Great forum too from what I have seen so far.
    Cheers all.
    Jeff

You have come to the right place, there is a really active community here who freely give of their time and expertise.

You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

I expect your planned rig will have a a fair bit of mass to move, so have a play with SimCalc to get your head around some of the physics involved: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...e-linear-speed-and-forces-of-your-design.270/

What's this cockpit you have? I'd love to see some photos if possible
