    Hi all you folks!

I have now decided to go with thanos design of the joyrider, with my own twist of course.
So the first order of business was for me to find a sheap way to get the PCB boards here in sweden, This was shown to be harder then I first thought. And I only found about 3 serious companys/private persons that did this. And after I talk to these three, there was only one left!

So my boards are about to go for etsching and drilling (all three boards H-bridge, LCD and AMC controller) for about 114$, So my last question to you are. Is this price ok or are it way too expensive?

    Regards
    Oliver

    Hi Thend,

if you like i can order and sent you all three pcb´s estimate for the costs of half of it from our german local pcb manufacturer platinenbelichter.de

PM me if you are interested in.

    Hi!

I started think (again...) I have never soldered anything in my life.. so if im going to be able to finnish thanos pcb-boards maybe its a good time to learn now!
So I bought a nice solder iron station and a robot kit! (thanos is doing robotics, so why not me?)

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/001.JPG[/img600px]
Heres the robot box and some pices!

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/002.JPG[/img600px]
And here is the work bence!

And my best freind today was my old magnifier/lamp thingy!
back from the days I painted Warhammers.

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/003.JPG[/img600px]
    The old magnifier/lamp thingy

    And so it began!

I started soldering all the resistors on to the motherboard, and hell I think its pretty damn good to be the first time ever I held a soldering iron!
The posistion of every part were no trubbel finding, the PCB had printed numbers and marked places and with the kit there was a handy paper with all the components and thier PCB-codes!

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/004.JPG[/img600px]
All the resistors are in place.

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/005.JPG[/img600px]
I think it looks prytte darn nice, to be my first time and everything!

After some hours soldering and some WTF is this part? and where shuld it go!?! I finnaly got the most parts on to the PCB

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/006.JPG[/img600px]
Some more parts finnaly on the PCB

Here is the complete work space! thank god for good lightning!

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/007.JPG[/img600px]
    THE workspace!

And in all this chaos you will need a break or two! And what better way than eating some leftover cake! Yummy

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/008.JPG[/img600px]
THE cake (is not a lie today!)

And back to work, the PCB´s are finnished and now I start mounting the motors. No problem at all!

Allmost finnished! come on keep on working!

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/009.JPG[/img600px]
    motor mount!

And then almost 4 hours in the making it was the big Price! I flipped in four of this cheap IKEA batteries and switched on the motors! IT WORKED! amazing! and it even avoids obstacle! :yippiee:

And the final picture! the finnished robot!

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/010.JPG[/img600px]
the robot! in all its glory!

And that was my todays adventure! hope someone enyos the reading!

    Hey oh Silver!

    Regards
    Oliver

    Hi!

Cecked some PVC pipe costs. And man they expensive! so with my budget I must find another sulotion... :sos:

So I used my best friend Google and found this!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgyQ0TTF-hI&feature=channel

I thinking of using a wooden frame instead of PVC-pipe.. Do you think regular wiper motors still will do the trick? or will the whole woodframe be to heavy?
Ofc I will center the whole frame so it center gravity and will therfor be easier on the motors!

If anyone else has a suggestion on what material (cheap) I can use! please, be kind and let me know!

    Hi again!

    I have to questions tonight!

first: shuldent my thread be moved to DIY motion simulator projects?

Second: I am new to all this, and I havent get my head around those potentiometer feedback thingy!
I understand that they some how sends the position of the motion simulator to the motion controller board.. but how does it know where the motion sm is centerd? and where on the motion sim can i put the sensors? can i have it placed att the motor? or shuld i have it placed at the rotation point of the sim?

I thinking of using ballbearings like these:
    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/xsim/ballbearings.jpg[/img600px]

and as you can see there is no room for sensors there, so I kinda dont know what to do!

    Regards
    Oliver

If you have acutator which move platform its better have sensor on con. joints. (you got exact position of sim.) if you have rotation to rotation (for example wind sheild wiper motor conect to sim directly (no linear motion)) you can have sensor on joint or on motor. I think that AMC doesnt support incremental sensor yet so you will use pot. or hall so you will have limited number of rotation. If your motor dont do more than 10 rotation per whole sim motion you can connect it to the motor (if more you must use additional gearbox for pot. ). So so far best choise is to connect pot (or hall ) directly to sim. on connection joints. For bearing (from pic.) i would youse hall sensor. You can mount magnet to one side and hall sensor to second side.
EDIT: Pot feadback is like joystick. You must connect sensor that if you have sim in middle (centred) pot will give you 2,5V (if you have 5V powersource). But i dont know if AMC board do calibration.

Hello Thend. How is your project going? As you might see i am located in Norway. I am in the beginning of a DIY simulator project. As you, I am thinking about using wood for the rigg. maybe its a scandinavian thing!!! I do have good acess to wood and tools to work with wood, so the rig will be wery cheap. The rig on your utube link seemed to be a little overzised. I dont think you need that big dimensions if you use laminated constructions. In my project I will start with the electronics because like you I dont have any experience with electronics, and i dont need a rig without the electronics and servos!!! Have you buildt the AMC and H-bridge yet? I have ordered parts from http://www.digikey.com and some from http://www.futurlec.com I have not got the pcb`s yet. I hope you update this tread as you proceed. maybe we can discuss solutions with wooden rig (På svensk/norsk??? :highfive: )

Hello everybody! I'm been busy this summer.. Unfortunately its not on my simulator..

I have moved to a apartment (instead of a house), so the space is tighter.. :p

So instead I decided to build something else this summer :)
I know its not A simulator, but its sure is gaming at its very best!

    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/bilder/DSC_0070.jpg[/img600px]
    [img600px]http://www.dufix.se/bilder/DSC_0071.jpg[/img600px]

This project has given me better skills in many ways and I'm now more certain that i can make a simulator work!
I got better tools and a better mind!
As soon as i get some space over! I will complete my simulator!

    Regards Oliver
