I would like to have something a si @Lebois. Some inverted pedals.

I already tried it a few months ago.. That's a lot of work for nothing... You don't feel the differene. And it's very hard to have a mount that is stiff enough to have no flex...

I finally had time to test what I have so far with my setup. I have everything set up with a wooden brake lever and the GT throttle pedal.


I decided to make a connector board because I hate soldering wires together. Its a very simple board with terminal blocks. Its makes connecting all the wires together a lot easier, but I underestimated how small the wires are in the DB9 connector I used. I think next time I'll design the board to have the DB9 connector on the board (or whatever connector I decide to use). I have 4 more I don't need. If anyone is interested and wants to pay for shipping, I can mail them. I can also order more.


I did a quick test with an Arduino to see if everything was working. The throttle works great. The brake though is only ranging from 100 to 300. The throttle ranges from 30 to 1000. I need to look into it, maybe 100-300 is fine. The pedal feels fine to me, but I'm having a hard time with the cheap threads leaking on the caliper. Both the banjo and the bleeder is leaking brake fluid. I definitely don't want to bring this into the house until I can fix the leaking.

Did you put joints between the pressure sensor and the banjo bolt ?

you have to put Teflon or sealant on the threads of each piece.

I put new gaskets around the banjo. I think I'll need to take them off and clean the area and replace the gaskets again.

NPT threads and bleeder valves are designed to be sealed without sealer and *shouldn't* need any. The brake fluid actually dissolves Teflon, but I may end up using a different thread sealer. I'm guessing the cheap caliper wasn't threaded correctly.

I have Teflon on it. If I don't put Teflon there are leaks. And if that is true, the brake fluid breaks the Teflon. But as I mentioned, if I don't put Teflon on it, there are leaks.

Guys. A tip given by an high end pedalsets seller : use liquid coolant !

Use liquid coolant? of car? coolant? as brake fluid?

yes, instead of the brake fluid. It won't damage the joints.

I've read from some other builders that paraffine oil and transmission oil also would be good options.

But I don't understand why those fluids are better than brake fluid. Brake fluid is supposed to be made for the same purpose. So I don't understand why coolant is better than brake fluid.

Brake fluid is very aggressive. You don't want to spill it on something. It literaly eats carpaint for breakfast.

It is also made to withstand very high temperatures (+300-400 degrees C) caused by friction when braking. In sim racing we don't have those high temperatures.

But no one will stop you to use real brake fluid if you want too use it.

I guess all we need is some kind of hydraulic fluid. I think in food processing they use vegetable oil for hydraulic fluid, but I'm not sure if its the same mix as what we buy in the grocery store. I think I'll try that and see what happens. Mineral oil might work too.

I know that brake fluid is abrasive, but it can burn something if you spill it. If you are careful when handling the brake fluid there is no problem. You do not manipulate the brake fluid, daily, you only manipulate it the day you fill the circuit but after that you no longer have to remove the brake fluid at all. That's why I don't see any point in not using the brake fluid. If you tell me that the coolant or mineral oil improves the feel of the pedal, then if I see a reason to use fluid other than brakes.

The biggest issue I see is that we need some kind of sealant to keep it from leaking, and if you're using teflon tape, eventually the brake fluid would eat away the teflon and it will start leaking again. I don't want to damage my carpet, so I would rather use teflon tape with some other fluid that's safer.

edit: Another thing that I just thought about is if the brake fluid would eat away the pressure sensor. I'm not sure what material the sensor is using to seal the fluid.

@ibohan00 I don't think that it can damage the pressure sensor, I never had any problem (they are even use on commercial hydraulic pedals)
