Let me tell you about my experience with UPS. In oktober last year I ordered parts for Tronics AMC, and H-bridge from Digi-Key US. The order cost 70 euro and payd with card. UPS sendt me a bill of 20 euro for VAT. By the time all was soldered together I got trouble programming and finally desided to order new Atmega. To be shure I ordered two Atmegas and some other parts, and the order cost about 40 euro. Now UPS has sendt me a bill of 13 euro for VAT but they have added 55 euro to the bill and they call it Product description line (translated from Norwegian- I made a call) They explain its a fee they take because the description of the products in the order must show different categories of products. The delivery costs was alredy payed when I ordered. Can you believe it?

So take care when ordering, You never know, unless you read all the small letters. I guess UPS stand for Universal Pirate Service!. This is one good reason Thanos idea of making a kit with hard to find items and the right IC`s is wery welcome for new builders of amc.

    Fred

Thats sad to hear what happened to you my friend. Thats the reason I NEVER use UPS to send packets around the world... always trying to make more money by customs scams... There are safer and cheaper shipping services!

I hate UPS, they have the worst service in Canada, too...

If I order anything express, it takes 1 week to be available for pick up at their office after it gets there!!!

Their are way too expensive too...

Fedex, Purolator and Canada Post are the only good options here!

    Cheers,

    MY

Well, I will just have to pay and forget about it, and hoping this topic can help others to avoid it! Thanks for tips on better options!

I'm sorry to hear about that Fred! My first and last experience with UPS was back about 5 years ago. I ordered a AMD XP3200+ processor for my computer, relatively cheap. On top of the $130 I payed for the CPU + Shipping, UPS charged me the 15% TAX here in Canada, plus $50 brokerage fee. That fee is just for the fact that they had took care of the duties and payed on my behalf.. F'in ridiculous...

    Avoid UPS by all costs!

I prefer DHL international in private and in business, they are cheap and in most cases reliable and fast.
