Since a few years I'm using my diy 2dof seatmover. I'm happy with the feedback, but there's one issue: Gearlash and the noise that comes with it. Over time the play in the gears gets bigger and bigger and especially in games like EA WRC all the fine bumps create super loud noises due to the gearlash.

I wonder, if there are other options that have been tested.

For example I'd love to know wich motors and gears are used in the nlr v2 platform, as it's super silent. Someone said it is a planetary gear, but that one will spin by itself when not powered, so that can't be the case...
I also thought about using something like a "mini push pull sfx100" with rockers.

Important is: I want to keep a tiny formfactor, so everything has to be below the seat. Behind the seat is not an option for me.

Maybe someone has some cool ideas, or I have overseen a post with different approaches, please let me know!

In DOF Reality we make it with SFU-gear, but we use motor with E-Brake to prevent free-spin when power off. upload_2024-6-15_12-20-9.png

You can use planetary (but only helical type) gears and motor with e-brake.

That's a super nice solution! Basically an open actuator. I guess, it's even more important to perfectly balance the system in this case?
I thought the pitch would be enough for the system to not move without motor input.
Now I'm tempted to try it out...

Thank you very much for the answer!
