I have a question for those who play flight simulator games, especially long-haul flights:

During extended flights, the cruise phase can become quite long and uneventful. Do you turn off your DOF rig during this time, or leave it running?

I'm asking because, during cruise, the rig isn't actively moving—it’s just holding the chair in a straight and level position. This still consumes power and causes the IBTs to heat up.

    So, do any of you:

    • Turn off your rig during these phases?
    • Have a system that allows the rig to rest during cruise and resume operation for landing?
    Thanks!

    Hello

I don't know if this helps, but a friend of mine used to fly a lot on FS2020 with a Yaw2. He could stay in it for hours (he's an amateur pilot IRL) and would leave it running. The Yaw II is known for not being very reliable and for heating up quite a bit, but he never had any issues.

When flying online, it barely consumed any power. He had the same concern and actually plugged in a wattmeter to measure the power consumption.

If you're worried about your components overheating, maybe add a small 120mm PC fan. It's easy to set up, and even a slight airflow will help keep the temperatures in check :)

I don't do that type of sim flying but if I did, based on your description, I would only use actual motion for take off and landings and in between would rely on refined transducer haptic support.

My late father, who had lots of motion and VR experience, thought a refined tactile transducer experience was actually motion:

    Thanks a lot @noorbeast @Thierry59191 for sharing.
I've already modified my motion seat and added cutoff power switches (and the motors will move to rest positions) and will hopefully look into getting a HF8 haptic pad. :thumbs
