Needing info on Digital Contactless Pots I've purchased

    Hi Folks,
I'm getting very close to needing my "electronics" for my AC Platform build - have two threads running now.

I've already purchased from Digi-Key 3ea of the Contactless Digital Pots 180.

Question 1: I know you can check a linear/wiper pot and set the indexing point - so you have a basis or starting point when mounting them. IS there a way of checking my contactless pots - I know there's a "little" bump or ridge at the top which would be center or 90degrees, but it won't tell me IF I'm 180 degrees out???
Does one just wait until they are physically hooked up and then set?

Question 2: I will have one pot that I have to electrically change when the right side becomes 0, and the left side would be 180 degrees - just the way my motors will be positioned with crank arms..... from what I understand, you have to do this with a "firmware" write..........and I don't know one thing about that.

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    Have a blessed one.

    Tom

Answer to question 1: You need to use a voltmeter to find the position of these pots. 2.5 volts is center. Once you find it you can put a mark on it with a sharpie or something yourself to find it again. Just connect it to a 5v source and test it!
Answer to question 2: As I stated previously, don't sweat the "firmware" part right now. It will be an easy fix once you can give us the information required to reverse the right motor.

    Hi BlazinH,
Thank you for settling this for me.
I must ask (since I've never been the electronics route before) WILL this be 5v AC or DC - ALL my low voltage stuff when I build my pc's is DC.
    Thanks, Tom

    Your pots need 5V DC.

    SimonUK,
    Thank you for the info.
Don't know "what" I was thinking - not much evidently??? as the SimAxe Boards etc. get power from the USB -
I "should" have known without asking - but reaffirming helps.
    Again, Thank You.

    Hi Rene',
Sorry friend. Sure didn't mean to do that, AND, it won't happen again!
Do have a "simple me" question....when I go to Community, then click on new posts, of course I see new ones....I have had a couple of Topics started on my build, etc., and posted in the right section,
however, I have not seen them posted in "new posts"...why is this?

Thanks and have a blessed day.

    Tom

When you ve posted them by yourself they do not occur for your account in the "new posts" section because you already know them as the author. All other guys will see them;-)

    Hi Rene,
GEEEZE, I keep learning your methodology - I was "thinking" that no one was seeing them - thus the "Digital Pot" thread in the wrong section....
And based on this, "me" would think that the replies you would get from your topic would be when "watch" has being clicked?

Thanks so much for the info....now "me" know.

    Ok back to topic,
With the Simaxe, you will see the pots position on the Lcd and can rotate them for installation easily.
Changing the code in the SimAxe is easy too, when at that stage I would ask the Author @yobuddy to explain, Im sure he will do.

    eaorobbie,
Sorry for the off topic - wanted to clear things up after my boo-boo.

Thank you for your explanation on the pots with lcd and the code change to reverse the pot.

    Many blessings,

    Tom
