Hi guys, I hope you can all read this, as I do not speak German. I am getting a used RnR next week. I was toying with the idea of upgrading to a USB controler, probably the 8055.

Question one: with x-simulator, will it pass ForceFeedback info via the original serial cable, even though it is only 7 positons per axis, or for the ForceFeedback support must you use a USB interface?

Question two: I am not clear on the translated instructions for the 8055, can it be connected direclty to the RnR, or must there be additional circuts made? Any help with those would be appreciated.

Question three: The simulator software that I will be using it the most for does not currently have ForceFeedback support, but will in a future version. Does the x-Simulator software require FF to function, or will it also pass just the joystick movents, or does it get the info in some other maner?

Reenoboss, I talked with you briefly over on the Race Sim Centeral forums the other day. Any input you or others may have would be appreciated.

    Hello Andrew.

nice that you decided to join our community!

X-Sim does not require FF. You can use game specific plugins or only joystic movements. Which sims/games are you playing?

    regards

    Hello Andrew,

    nice to see u here.

For FFB support, u have to use one of the interfaces, except the original interface.

    http://www.x-simulator.de/de/hardware/hardware.html

The 8055 can be directly connected to the valves of the rnr.

Thanks for the welcome and info guys.

So just to make sure I have it clear, I can get a 8055 to do softmotion, and hook it directly to the actuators with no other circuts? I think this is the way I will go.

As for the games I will be playing, I will be mostly using it for a glider flight simulator called Silent Wings (http://www.silentwings.no). I am a glider pilot in real life, and would like as close to the real thing as I can get. The software does not support FF at the moment, but it will in the near future.

    Thank you sirnoname.
As far as I know the software does not have any support for a motion paltform yet. The simulator is OGL as opposed to DirectX, but the developers said it was easy to put in forcefeedback and they would do it in a future version. You can get more details of the sim at http://www.silentwings.no.

I guess my real question is, if I buy the 8055, what do I need to do to get it to work on the RnR. I am not clear on the translation that I have read here. If I only need a transistor, it is no problem, I can do that, I just need to know where they go. Do they hook up to the input, or the output to the actuators? I am a newbie about this stuff, so be kind. :)

Also, would I better off going with the K8055 or the home built board? They do the same things right? I don't know how to build a circut board myself, so if someone could build me one I can pay them. :)

    Hello 94za4,

I used the VM110 (build and tested board) and VM129 (build and tested relaisboard).

On the VM129 you'll need to remove the original AC->DC converter setup so you can directly use DC.

Everything works nicely but the main problem seems to be lag!
    (like Sirnoname explained).
I haven't tested is sofar but i 'll try to do the K8055 setup with the input
    through gameport!

And still thinking about making the R'n'R-USB-board V1.3!!

Thank you again sirnoname. Is it difficult to add a second set of pneumatics per axis? Will I have to upgrade the compressor, or run them both off the same one? The RnR should be at my door tomorrow. I was hoping to have it by now, but I had some problems with the shipping company.

I have ordered the VM110 to replace the original controler, so I will get that done to start with, then go from there.

It's not difficult! You just split the airhose comming from the valveblock with a y-splitter to just install an extra cylinder!
(forward/backward to install parallel , left/right to install in push/pull)

Biggest problem is to find exact matching cylinders or buy 4 new identical! Then mounting them is slight a problem on the original R'n'R!

    For compressor I use a 1.5 HP compressor (220 V) with a 25 ltr. airtank!
(for sale in a common hardwarestore for about € 89,--)

I have one of those compressors for a nail gun. The thing is a beast though and way loud. I may give it a try and see what I can do with it.

Anyone know of a source for cheap pneumatic cylinders? Sounds like that may be the easiest way.

Mine is in the garage and i have a hose (10 mm.) to the room upstair.
In the room it can be closed/opened with a inline valve followed by inline pressure-regulator with inbuilt manifold so i can control the pressure there!!
(3.5 bar for racesims  and 0,3 bar for Flightsim)

For cylinders i would look for A-brand in the neighbourhood!
A-brand is better selling when you want to get rid of it!
A-brand is mostly better built so performs better (use low-friction types)
In the neighbourhood is easy if you need stuff like fitting etc!.
    (but that's only opinion)
I personally use SMC stuff! Festo is the same!

    keep us informed!
